Davina McCall fought back tears as she made a 'really painful' family admission about loneliness during Wednesday night's My Mum, Your Dad.

The most recent instalment of the dating show for single parents saw the 56-year-old presenter open up about the struggles of having children move out.

During the episode, the female contestants were having a candid discussion about how they felt about their youngsters getting older and who they confide in when times get difficult.

The chat began with Maria reflecting on her time on the show, telling the group: 'It's been quite an eye-opening experience in general.

'In life we sort of go about our business and I'm quite a social person. I love people, I love having a little chat, but you realise how it's all on a superficial level.'

As she got emotional, Davina struggled to keep it together as she jumped in with her own heart-breaking admission.

'Do you know what?,' she said, 'I know you've spoken about loneliness and we're all... we're all struggling with that a little bit with kids going and things like that. It's really painful.'

'If you let someone know how you are, it's connecting with someone on a deeper level.'

As some members of the group shed a tear, Maria added: 'That's one thing I want to take away from this retreat, is actually, if I feel like that. I've got close family but I don't think I've cried in front of my sister, that's a bit crap.'

Davina went on to probe: 'Who do you turn to?' to which the contestant sadly responded: 'I don't think anyone' and burst into turns.

Emotional scenes saw Davina suggest: 'I think it might be time to open up to people and let them in and let them help you.'

Davina has two girls, Holly, 23, Tilly, 21, and a son, Chester, who she shares with her ex-husband Matthew Robertson.

While the presenter has tried to ensure her private life remains out of the spotlight, she has divorced from her ex-husband Matthew Robertson.
