Who said rowing was boring? Team GB hero Hannah Scott takes delight in 'putting on a show' after dramatic final-stroke victory in quadruple sculls

  • Lauren Henry, Lola Anderson, Hannah Scott and Georgie Brayshaw secured gold
  • They beat Netherlands to the line in the final stroke having trailed the whole race
  • Anderson, meanwhile, spoke on the fluidity of her team's plan going into race

Team GB's victorious women in the quadruple sculls said unrelenting trust was the key to their dramatic gold medal.

Lauren Henry, Lola Anderson, Hannah Scott and Georgie Brayshaw were trailing the Netherlands for almost 2,000 metres before snatching victory with the final stroke.

Britain's rowers had not won a gold medal since Rio 2016 and the victory eased the pressure on the heavily-funded team.

'Everyone always wants to win as convincingly as possible but there's never a strict plan we look to follow,' said Anderson.

'Racing is always fluid and dynamic. If you're down at the start, it's not over. If you're down at the 250, it's not over. 'That's what we have, unrelenting trust, and if we commit we can move. We've come back from quite a long way before. It's not over until you've crossed the finish line.'

Scott was the only survivor from the team that missed out on medals in Tokyo. 'I've heard reports that rowing is quite boring. We thought we would give everyone a show,' she said.

'We've been training for three years for moments like that and we weren't going to let it go. Tough strokes have been taken every day. It might have been a bit nerve-wracking for people but we were all eyes in.

'Tokyo was hard to walk away from, but I still had the belief. I was determined to make sure that if I came back, we'd go for a gold. This shows the talent we have coming through.'
