A row over a parking space descended into an eight man brawl on Friday after a driver refused to move his vehicle so another car could get in.

The fracas in Cross Street, in Auckland, at just before 1pm started because one of the men was parked in between two spots, according to a witness.

Footage taken by a bystander showed a man in a blue shirt grappling with another in a grey and white camouflage shirt in the middle of the street before the tension spills over.

Another man in a black shirt got out of his car and appeared to shout towards the camera, before he and the man in the blue shirt are left squabbling on the ground.

The two fall to the pavement before another five people join the melee. One pulls a man in the black shirt away with their arm around his neck.

A short time later, two of the people involved in the fight can still be seen entangled on the floor as arguments between the group of people continued.

A voice behind the camera can be heard criticising the two men as they fight over the space, saying 'it's pathetic, it's just a driving space'.

As the situation calmed down the man in the blue shirt, which as been torn, is urged to leave.

'Be the bigger man and go away,' the same voice can be heard saying.

Witness Matt Earle added the situation was even more comical because there were actually free parking spots just a few metres away (squabble pictured)

'I think he (the man trying to get the other driver to move his car) works across the road so then all the workmates came out and everyone was yelling at each other,' witness Matt Earle said.

Speaking to the New Zealand Herald, Mr Earle added the situation was even more comical because there were actually free parking spots just a few metres away.

Police said they were called to a 'minor incident' at 12.45pm. The matter has been resolved, a police spokesperson said.
