Tia Mitchell is the AJC’s Washington correspondent. In this role, she writes about Georgia’s congressional delegation, campaigns, elections and the impact that decisions made in D.C. have on residents of the Peach State. Before that, she served as the AJC’s DeKalb County reporter. Prior to joining the paper in 2017, Tia spent her entire career in Florida covering local and state government for publications like the Tampa Bay Times and The Florida Times-Union. Tia is a graduate of Florida A&M University and is originally from Louisville, Ky. She is active with the National Association of Black Journalists where she serves as convention programming co-chair and immediate past chair of the Political Task Force.
