Technologies have advanced at an accelerated pace. Just a few immunoassay techologies were gaining field twenty years ago; now we assist to an explosion of these approaches that are following the path from bench to bedside. The emergence of new technologies, such as whole-genome, proteome profiling or exome sequencing, has led to innovative information. This information has further led to new insights in understanding the delicate equilibrium of inhibition/activation within a protein/pathway/cellular network, understanding that is a prerequisite for developing new therapeutic approaches. The comprehension of the heterogeneity of biological systems and of cellular pheno/ genotype variation explaining the personalized responses was another scientific gain of the recent years. Within this area, molecular mechanisms that sustain this acknowledged heterogeneity are to be highlighted by applying immune-based technologies. The biotechnology setting that we are witnessing today confirms that the overall field of immunology is rapidly evolving, principles, mechanisms or pathways are still bound to scientific debate, but this battle field would give the new scientific leaps that will be done in the near future. We invite our readers and writers to join us in this new scientific endeavor and increase our journal’s visibility by adding their valuable work and input. Thus, in order to gain wide scientific visibility, the journal will host in each issue a review paper with the main trends in immunoassay based approaches. A special issue will be published as the last 2017 issue with the title “Updates in immune-based multiplex assays.” The Editorial Team Cristiana Tanase Victor Babes National Institute of Pathology, Bucharest, Romania Faculty of Medicine, Titu Maiorescu University, Bucharest, Romania Radu Albulescu Victor Babes National Institute of Pathology, Bucharest, Romania Faculty of Medicine, Titu Maiorescu University, Bucharest, Romania National Institute for Chemical-Pharmaceutical R&D, Bucharest, Romania Monica Neagu Victor Babes National Institute of Pathology, Bucharest, Romania Faculty of Biology, Bucharest University, Bucharest, Romania CONTACT Cristiana Tanase, MD, PhD.
