A note on Indian hare Lepus nigricollis: presence beyond the IUCN distribution in the Himalayas2023 •
Indian hare Lepus nigricollis have a vast distribution in southern Asia with several subspecies. Even though it is distributed in a large area, the species lacks regional assessment and has been understudied for taxonomy, ecology, and demography. The species is stated to be absent from the high reaches of the Himalayas; however, several records reveal the presence of the species in the higher reaches of the Himalayas. In this article, we present records of Indian hare from the higher reaches of the Himalayas based on questionnaire survey, literature review, and directed sightings, which could be used to reassign its distribution range.
Al-ʿUṣūr al-Wuṣtā, the Journal of Middle East Medievalists, 32, 2024, 165-249. The present paper investigates the famous khuṭba attributed to Abū Ḥamza al-Shārī, an Ibāḍī warlord on behalf of ʿAbd Allāh b. Yaḥyā. In the middle of the 2nd/8th century, he seized Mecca and Medina as the outcome of an Ibāḍī rebellion that had begun in the remote region of Ḥaḍramawt. The khuṭba has been well-known for decades, as fragments are scattered throughout various Sunnī and Shīʿī sources. However, few studies have addressed the broader context of the sermon so far, or offered a comprehensive translation of it. This article is divided into two parts. The first part is devoted to the history of Ibāḍism in the Arabian Peninsula during the 2nd/8th century. We propose explanatory hypotheses to understand the various reasons that led ʿAbd Allāh b. Yaḥyā to rebel against the Umayyad dynasty. We also offer a commentary on the khuṭba to help in its reading. The second part contains an extensive translation based on a longer version of the khuṭba found in a little-known eighteenth-century Ibāḍī source, the Kashf al-ghumma al-jāmiʿ li-akhbār al-umma, drafted in Oman and attributed to Ibn Sirḥān al-Izkawī.

https://doi.org/10.16995/gc.11086: This essay argues that central assumptions underlying identity politics in literary writing - inclusion, visibility, diversity - are progressive in character. Yet in conditions of social precarity, literary writing and especially literary discussions that derive progressive potential from identity claims involuntarily and inevitably act under the aegis of neoliberal progressivism (as critiqued by Nancy Fraser and many others). Caution about identity politics (rather than its outright rejection) is a necessary minimum in response to the corruption inherent in the systemic placement of literature. When literary discussions, and this does not just mean scholarly research but also literary critique, book presentations and discussions in different reading groups and book clubs, fall short of this critical minimum, they risk missing that common and universal feature of the general intellect upon which revolutionary ideas of emancipation and solidarity once rested. Following Ulrich Brand and Markus Wissen's study of the imperial mode of living, this essay examines the phenomenon of what I call 'literary identity politics' - namely the implementation of identity politics in and through literary writing - in terms of the interval between literature's efforts to right the wrongs of exclusion and its simultaneous entanglement in the system of global injustice.
