This paper intends to present what has been studied by the scientific community about Virtual Reality (RV) and Augmented Reality (AR) on Onboarding and what is the potentiality as an empowering tool on Onboarding processes of new employees in organizations.Onboarding encompasses a series of processes that aim to train and familiarize new employees with culture, mission, values and colleagues, thus facilitating the integration of new employees into an organization, meaning, processes that facilitate adaptation to the organization. A successful Onboarding program offers new employees resources to assimilate cultural aspects and collaborate to better adapt in new environment, thus enhancing performance. The use of new technologies in work processes and therefore in Human Resource Management and Development (HRMD) is becoming more frequent. Through its own equipment, RV/RA has as main characteristic to recreate the sensation of reality, giving a individual the possibility to integrate a ...

The job market has been in continuous development. Both depleting resources due to rapid adaptation and reaching higher effectiveness and reducing costs. This is also reflected in the need for the companies to guarantee support mechanisms capable of enhancing the quality and productivity of their employees in order to facilitate the processes of learning and task development. Thus, the technologies of Virual Reality and Augmented Reality are slowly finding their way into all areas of business, including in Human Resources (HR) as an important tool to follow the technological progress towards the improvement of productivity (Holm, Danielsson, Syberfeldt, Moore, & Wang, 2017)Such technologies can have a great impact in the development of new skills, revolutionizing the way companies provide their employees with learning experiences which help them to acquire knowledge and skills, better achieving performance goals. Currently, there is not a single organization that can survive without...

Applications of Virtual Environments in Human Factors Research and Practice2019 •
Virtual reality, augmented reality, and other forms of virtual environments have the potential to dramatically change how individuals work, learn, and interact with each other. A key objective of human factors research and practice is to determine how these environments should be designed to maximize performance efficiency, ensure health and safety, and circumvent potential human virtual environment interaction problems. This session will demonstrate some of the distinct and diverse uses of virtual reality, mixed reality, and virtual environments in an alternative format. The session will begin with each demonstrator providing a brief overview of their virtual environment and describing how it has been used to address a particular problem or research need. Following the description portion of the session, all demonstrations will be set-up around the room, and session attendees will be encouraged to directly interact with the environment and ask demonstrators questions about their re...

Understanding Virtual Employee Onboarding (VEO): The New Normal and beyondThe article analyzes the intricacies of Virtual Employee Onboarding programs (VEO) from the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak and beyond. The paper aims to understand the strategic significance of the Virtual Onboarding process with recent corporate illustrations of onboarding programs. Besides, the literature discusses the ideal Virtual Onboarding process with examples of the commonly used tools. An effective VEO program is highlighted with the necessary conditions and the program components that should be incorporated to make an inclusive and enriching virtual onboarding experience. There are managerial implications drawn from the research: sophisticated, technology imbued virtual Onboarding can be designed, and the tools and company practices can be applied in the business context of Onboarding. Lastly, the challenges and emerging trends can be insightful to VEO practices for creating an amazing new employee onboarding experience.

This article presents different ways in which new virtual reality technologies can be used in the development of software applications dedicated to supporting organizational learning / training processes. Thus, virtual reality can offer employees of enterprises in the Romanian economy access to an advanced training system by creating virtual environments that simulate real scenarios in which users have total freedom of movement and interaction with the constituent elements. Virtual Reality addresses to senses and perception. The VR technologies presented in this article address not only basic senses such as vision or hearing, but also senses such as balance or intuition. Thus, the brain is helped by the entire sensory system to receive a rich flow of information that starts from the environment and comes to mind. Therefore, if we present the artificially created information to the senses, the way in which reality is perceived will also be altered. In this context, we will also prese...

Improving Employee Well-Being by Means of Virtual Reality – REALEX: An Empirical Case Study
Improving Employee Well-Being by Means of Virtual Reality2020 •
The present paper seeks to analyse how a virtual reality system can foster employee well-being at the workplace. In order to answer the research problem, whether such a system can benefit employees in regards to their well-being, stress perception and relaxation, an empirical case study was conducted. Relevant literature both on the advantages of virtual reality systems in general and on different approaches to fostering employee well-being are displayed and discussed within the paper, leading up to a description of the methodology. Based on a sample of 52 participants from Germany, Austria and Croatia an empirical study with a quantitative, pre- and post-study approach was conducted. Participants were assessed in regards to their initial stress perception, before they used either the REALEX system (a VR based relaxation tool displaying natural landscapes in a virtual reality setting) or a video streaming service on a classical display. The statistical analyses revealed that the usage of the REALEX system was able to significantly improve participants’ stress perception and well- being. In doing so it – also significantly – exceeded the positive effect that the control setting (video streaming) had in these regards. Potential limitations of the study are presented and recommendations both for practical work in the field of human resource management and for scientific research are deducted.
The pandemic has forced organizations to find new ways of working. In fact, we are seeing an increase in remote working and this has inevitably impacted onboarding processes. In this respect, the aim of this study was to understand how young graduates under 30 experienced digital onboarding (in terms of emotions and cognitions) when joining organizations with structured Human Resources processes. An exploratory qualitative study was conducted in which participants were asked to fill in ethnographic sheets in order to understand the barriers and facilitators that organizations can implement to improve the digital onboarding experience. We used thematic analysis. What emerged from our study is that newcomers struggled, in digital contexts, to find the right information, to be proactive and to receive immediate feedback in order to understand the context and to understand their fit with the company: it is important not to lose sight of the importance of socialization, but rather to fin...
