'Far from the Centre : A Critical study of Hansda Showvendra Shekhar's Short story 'The Adivasi Will not Dance'To establish a firm identity, one needs to raise a voice among diversities. This also happens in the case of Indian writing in English, where many regional issues are being written in English to get broader attention. The underlying manifold voices thus manifest themselves and help us to know marginal issues. This paper critically aims at Hansda Showvendra Shekhar's short story collection The Adivasi Will Not Dance (2015)2 and especially focusses on the title story which affirms the identity crisis of Santhals at the Santhal paragana in Jharkhand. This literary piece becomes a protest against the state-sponsored capitalism and thus a marginal voice affirms his identity against the turbulent world outside. The heart felt agony for identity crisis makes the readers to look at the reality at its ugliest form.

Tribal Displacement and Exploitation: A Study of Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar's short story 'The Adivasi Will Not Dance'With the rising awareness regarding the 'self', the tribal groups have come together to raise voices against their systematic marginalization by the mainstream. Tribal or Adivasi literature, steeped with tribal concerns, is trying to carve out a place for itself in the arena of research and literature. Issues concerning tribal development like displacement, poverty, health and disease, indebtedness, land alienation, criminalization, etc. are the result of the econocentric approach of development programs initiated by the governments where tribal interests are not looked after. Adivasi with no real political power face severe challenges from the mainstream to protect their land. The various forces like modernization, globalization, industrialization and state power structures posed a big threat to their tribal existence.

Speaking about feminism in Indian English texts isn't exclusive, but what distinguishes this study from others is the picturing of women in a tribal and semi-tribal society. The socioeconomic, sociopolitical, religious and ideological origins of the millennial tribal ideals are traced through the stories like "Blue Baby", "Baso-jhi", "Merely a Whore", "Eating with the Enemy", "Desire, Divination, Death", and "November is the Month of Migrations" in Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar's The Adivasi Will Not Dance (2015). Female characters in the selected stories are studied in their relationships as mothers, wives, daughters, lovers, brides, servants, prostitutes, widows, "dahni" [witch] and as distinct selves too. Even after being the doubly oppressed and "doubly colonized", the female tribal characters stand out in their own unique way in terms of their characteristic traits, attitudes, perspectives and intellect. Thus, through the characters' views and the author's perspective, this paper seeks to explore the complex identity and condition of the women in the poverty stricken, middle class, santhal patriarchal society. Simultaneously, drawing philosophical supports from several feminist critics this paper also focuses on the concepts of the 'other', 'subaltern, 'marginality', 'ecofeminism' and 'phallogocentrism'.

Conflicts and the subalternity in 'The Adivasi Will Not Dance'2019 •
Conflicts and the subalternity are the two critical aspects chosen for this research paper. The paper sets forth its context in light with the story collection written by Hansda Sowvendra Shekhar, entitled as "The Adivasi Will Not Dance". This collection of short stories comprises of certain tensions which we call conflicts. On the other hand the subject of subalternity in the stories is visible. The conflicts studied in the stories are basically both of internal and external nature. The conflicts borne out of the regional, personal and of course the status of Adivasi is a core part of this research. The subaltern studies also trace it back to the postcolonial thinking in terms of ideologies, history, philosophy and recognition. The conflicts of all kinds would be explored for different or the variety of meanings extracted from the text. The text chosen for the research is of historioghraphical nature consisting of the context of victimization and resistance. The stories represent the subjugation and the ultimate sidelining of the inhabitants from Jharkhand belt of Subarnarekha River being invaded by the outsiders. The cunning policies of outsiders and the acclimatization of Adivasis with the evolving culture results in the outcome of subaltern aspect of Adivasis. Cultures they inherit also create a way for critical thinking and bring tension in the community. The conflicting discourse and the traditions are closely studied and analyzed hence, the conflicts juxtaposed both of internal and external kinds are mentioned.

The Adivasi Will Not Dance: A Study in Dialectics of Tribal Voices from Jharkhand2017 •
The subject of the paper is on the aboriginal community of Santhals, which like any other marginalized tribe of India suffers from the immorality of the "civilized" and ignorance of the govt. and ministers who call themselves "servants" of the general public. The paper does not aim to attain any kind of pity towards such people as Santhals, but to get the respect and the rights that are duly theirs as being equally human as any other privileged individual. For the advancement of the society and our country it is really necessary that we acknowledge the importance of such tribes or aborigines, for the quiddity and extract of our culture relies with and within them.
