2008, Emirates Heritage Volume 2: Proceedings of the 2nd Annual Symposium on Recent Archaeological Discoveries in the Emirates
Two structures were partially excavated revealing well constructed buildings with stone walls still surviving to a height of almost a metre in some places. Radiocarbon dates as well as associated finds suggest that the settlement was established by the mid sixth millennium BC. This makes it one of the oldest sites so far discovered in the United Arab Emirates. The final phase of occupation at the site seems to be soon after the mid-5th millennium BC.

New evidence for the Neolithic settlement of Marawah Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates2005 •
"This paper discusses the results and wider significance of archaeological excavations undertaken on a Neolithic settlement located on the island of Marawah, in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Survey and excavation revealed the remains of seven prehistoric mounds associated with Neolithic structures. One of the structures measured approximately 4m long and 2m in width and, built out of stone, survived to a height of approximately 70cm. Finds include pottery, lithics, shell beads and bone. The site represents a unique architectural style for the Gulf Neolithic coastal communities, that does not have any obvious parallels. Radiocarbon analysis suggests the site was occupied around 7,600 years ago."

New light on the Neolithic fertile coast: recent excavations on Ghagha Island (Abu Dhabi Emirate, UAE) and the emergence of domestic architecture in ancient Arabia2023 •
Ghagha island is located at the westernmost extent of Abu Dhabi emirate, c.1 km from the UAE mainland. Survey and excavation by the Department of Culture and Tourism: Abu Dhabi has identified two previously unknown Neolithic sites on the island (GHG0014 and GHG0063). GHG0014 comprises a cluster of stone-built rooms, preserved to nearly 1 m in height. GHG0063 is still under excavation but comprises ash lenses and stone features. Finds from both sites include bifacial barbed and tanged arrowheads, fragments of plaster vessels, and other stone implements. Radiocarbon dates from GHG0014 indicate that it was occupied by 6500 cal BC. This is considerably earlier than any known domestic architecture in the region. A single assay from GHG0063 is in broad agreement with this chronology. In this paper we explore the implications of these discoveries for Neolithic coastal life in the Arabian Gulf, especially considering our growing understanding of the Flandrian Transgression. In addition, we position these discoveries against the normative framework which sees trade with Ubaid period Mesopotamia as a catalyst for economic change. Lastly, we explore how both sites, in combination with the discoveries from Marawah Island, can disarticulate the linear narrative of the Neolithic revolution in the ancient Near East.

Neolithic settlement patterns and environment evolution along the coast of northern UAE: the case of Umm al Quwain UAQ36 vs UAQ2 and Akab shell-middens.2019 •
New data on the Neolithic occupation of the northern UAE coast were collected during the 2017–2018 excavations at the shellmidden site of UAQ36. Although so far limited to a fifth-millennium occupation, this data can be contextualized within the broader research programme of the French Archaeological Mission in the Emirate of Umm al-Quwain. When compared to the previously excavated Neolithic sites of UAQ2 (last third of the sixth–beginning of the fourth millennium) and Akab (second third of the fifth–beginning of the fourth millennium), this new data can be used to discuss the nature of the Neolithic occupation along the UAE Gulf coast,
This paper details the recent re-examination of a multiperiod archaeological site discovered by the Abu Dhabi Islands Archaeological Survey [ADIAS] at a site located just to the south of Abu Dhabi International Airport in the United Arab Emirates. The site originally designated as ADA 1, is now known to extend both to the north-west and the north (Sites ADA 2 and ADA 7). A number of Late Islamic pottery scatters have also been observed to the north (Sites ADA 3–5) and east (Site ADA 6) of the main site. An earlier study of pottery collected from the surface of Site ADA 1 suggested sporadic occupation at the site from the Hafit period, c. 3100–2700 BC, with maximum settlement in the second half of the third millennium BC (de Cardi 1997). The pottery could be related to both the Umm an-Nar culture, as well as to the sequence established at Hili 8 in Period II, including wares of probably Mesopotamian and Eastern Arabian origin. The site does not appear to have been utilized during much of the second millennium BC and the Iron Age, although some pottery was recognized dating to between the first century BC and second century AD. Small quantities of Late Islamic pottery were also noted on the surface. Although lithics identified as being from the fifth and fourth millennium BC were found at the site, no pottery of Ubaid-type has been recognized amongst the pottery assemblage, although Ubaid material is now known from a number of sites along the Abu Dhabi coastline from al-Aryam, Dalmā, Ghāghah and Marawah (Beech & Elders 1999; Beech, Elders & Shepherd 2000; Flavin & Shepherd 1994; Popescu & Beech, in prep), as well as further north on the Emirates Gulf coastline.
