This paper argues that the sexual minority ‘problem’ in South Korean society raises fundamental questions about the rationality, democracy, and definition of citizenship embedded in South Korea’s biopolitical responses to COVID-19 through the case of the Itaewon ‘gay club’ mass infection in May 2020. During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, South Korea’s quarantine and isolation strategy was praised as an ideal model for infectious disease control that is transparent, open, and democratic. As a result, democratic citizenship became reconciled with the voluntary engagement in anti-virus solidarity. However, the Itaewon ‘gay club’ outbreak and the avoidance of COVID-19 tests among sexual minorities revealed that South Korea’s democratic disease control system could not operate properly in the face of pre-existing, systemic discrimination. Recognizing the seriousness of this situation, the government established an extraordinary governance in collaboration with LGBTQ rights groups to address the obstacles faced by the quarantine measures. Yet, this one-of-a-kind event merely defined the sexual minorities’ citizenship in terms of infectious disease control, and the questions regarding relationship between sexuality and citizenship continue to remain unanswered.

Korea entered the US wig market in the mid-1960s and rapidly grew at once. This was possible in a trade environment where wigs were popular as fashion accessories in the West from the 1950s, and the United States participated in the Vietnam War and regulated the trade of Chinese people. Korean wig workers processed Asian hair from underdeveloped countries, including Korean hair, to suit the taste of whites in the West. In the late 1960s, when the fashion changed from human hair wigs to synthetic fiber wigs in the United States, Korean wigs responded with mass-production of small items, and mass-produced low-wage wig workers. As a result, the price of wigs became cheaper, and blacks joined the wig consumers, which in conflict with the American black human rights movement led to a decline in wig prevalence, leading to a reduction in wig workers in Korea.

The Validity of the Kingdom of God Movement of the Reformed Life Theology: Focusing on the Criticism of Social Gospel2019 •
The purpose of this paper is to compare “Social Kingdom of God” presented by Social Gospel with“ Kingdom Movement” proposed by the Reformed Life Theology. In this paper, I seek to present the timely Kingdom of God movement within the frame of the Reformed theology. In particular, I will analyze the Kingdom of God movements of the two theological positions using two criteria derived from the three verification tests presented by Howard Snyder. For this purpose, firstly I will prove that the concept of the Kingdom of God, which Walter Rauschenbusch of the United States presented in the 19th century, was nothing but a liberal movement based on Ritschlianism. I will argue that despite the movement has the advantage of being actively involved in social-ethical issues, it was a humanitarian movement that lost the proper theological basis. Next, I will consider the theological meaning of the Kingdom movement proposed by the Reformed Life Theology of Korea in the 21st century. The Reformed Life Theology is based on the “5 solas” and “Kingdom movement” that it is possible to suggest God-oriented Kingdom movement based on the traditional and confessional Reformed theology.
