Landscapes of the Anthropocene, 2023
This graduate seminar will engage in recent debates on climate change, the global ecological crisis, and the new geological epoch known as the Anthropocene. Particular attention will be paid to the newly emerging fields of environmental arts and humanities. How are artists, historians, and others in the humanities responding to the new climate regime and the urgent need to decolonize the planet? What can humanities do for world communities in their struggles for climate and heritage justice against extractive economies of late capitalism? What are some of the difficult questions raised about the entrenched Western concepts of growth, progress, freedom, humanism, and anthropocentrism? In this seminar, we will tap into debates critical of what brought the Planet Earth to its catastrophic status, touching on posthumanism, new materialism, ecocriticism, and political ecology.

Tempus fugit. Conference organised by Roman Gundacker and Annik Wüthrich, Vienna, 11-13 July 2023
A fine-grained analysis of Wenamun's mission shows that the author's interest was not much in describing the downgraded situation of Egypt in international matters (Bader's and Tjekerbaal's discourse being conform to what Egyptians were accustomed to since centuries), but rather in thematizing the problematic rise of power of Amun-Re temple in state matters through the manipulation of the oracles. Wenamun, who is depicted as the herald of the state theocracy, is very subtly mocked while his mission is presented as ill-conceived from the very beginning. The author reveals himself as a master in handling humour, irony, rhetoric, voicing his opinion through his characters.

The paper examines the pins found in women’s assemblages from cemeteries in the Kaliningrad Peninsuladating to 1st–8th centuries. The pins are analyzed as a marker of cultural links and an element of local population clothes.
