The Dream of an End of a Nightmare

As inescapable as the pull of the Event Horizon, hidden beneath the Forest of Smoke. As unyielding as a Persevering rat in a Tunnel. As sudden as a Reflection you see in an Alley. And as bewildering as the Arrangement of flowers put behind many Locks.

"You will never reach the Dream you seek. All that awaits you on this path is heartbreak. Just go to sleep."

With the Red Blade in hand, the Blue Rabbit begins her hazy crusade, in search for something that may no longer exist.

A fast-paced Action Slasher

  • An atmospheric journey through a strange world with a strange purpose.
  • A powerful player character, able to fight both in melee and at range.
  • 5 playable game modes for different kinds of players.
  • 4 Stages (2 in the Jam Version) of acceptance and defiance.
  • A myriad of strange machines to slash through, before they shoot you into submission.
  • More mysteries and secrets to uncover. The world may react not only to what you do, but also how.

Developed during the BIGMODE Game Jam

The entirety of the Jam Version was made for the Big Mode game jam. Currently only 2 stages are available with no ending, with 2 more stages planned after the Jam if the game is received positively.

Depending on feedback, current game modes may be changed or removed, and new game modes may be introduced. You are free to share any ideas or thoughts in the comments!

A short Nullschwert spin-off

While the story and lore of Rotschwert is indirectly connected to Nullschwert, it is not a direct sequel/prequel to it. Rotschwert may still be enjoyed by anyone when played first, and playing Nullschwert is not necessary to enjoy Rotschwert (and vice versa).

I've poured a lot of energy and soul into Nullschwert and Rotschwert, and I hope you enjoy both. If anything, the 1.5 year game dev journey taught me that your conscious efforts do make a difference, even if you don't see the end result. If my games make you feel the same, then in the end it was all worth it.

Have fun!

hey! i'm looking to play game jam games on stream with developer commentary, would you be up for joining me, either in chat or in voice call?

Sure, sounds like fun! I'm really out of practice for the voice commentary though so it'll have to be text

nice! you can find me in the discord under bonejacq :] i'm still streaming, so i hope i didn't miss you, but i was just recommended your game by a couple people, so i wanted to make good on that

Game is awesome. Really enjoyed both stages and the music.

Really lovely game, as for any other game on here I have no notes for, 5/5.

This is a really good bullet hell + shmup, so if you like those two things, you should definitely try this out.

Looking forward to the full release.

I haven't really played horizontal shmups so I don't have a professional opinion but I like that the two shot types are more effective against different enemies not because of hard-coded stats but rather their positioning.

Though I think there's a visibility problem with the first shot type, I struggle to see my hitbox while holding down Z but other than that I'm really looking forward to a full release!

Also I think BIG mode would work cool as a stage gimmick or a power-up, like you could have higher damage but also you would have to deal with a larger hitbox.

Thank you for playing and for the feedback! I'll think about how to improve the primary attack visibility. It used to shoot out of the player sprite without going backward, but it didn't look as powerful. Maybe I'll roll back to that or change sprite transparency

(BIG mode is meant as a joke though I really don't think it's here to stay XD but I'll keep your suggestions in mind)

I think you should change the sprite transparency cause I like that it moves backwards too! (Maybe it slowly gains more visibility after it has already moved pass the player character...)

Good luck on the game jam!
