Avery is an interdisciplinary wildlife ecologist dedicated to conservation efforts that balance the needs of people and wildlife. She coordinates Working Wild Challenge initiatives, specifically focusing on evaluating the socioeconomic impacts of carnivores and the efficacy of conflict mitigation measures in Oregon, Montana, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Avery holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from University of California Berkeley and a B.A. from Middlebury College. Her Ph.D. research investigated the ecological and social dimensions of wolf-livestock conflict in Cody, Wyoming. She has worked for various natural resource agencies and organizations across the West and has done freelance consulting for The Nature Conservancy, Central Idaho Rangelands Network, Idaho Conservation League, and the Wood River Wolf Project.

Recently relocated from Wyoming to Oregon, she is excited to hike, ski, bike, fish, and camp around the Pacific Northwest with her partner and two rescue dogs!
