One of the most surprisingly claims I hear repeated is: "this book is US copyrighted, therefore you need to get the author's permission before lending it". As explains: "It's not a violation of copyright to buy a book and lend it out - it is copyright."

Why the govt is trying to 🛑 PenguinRandomHouse from becoming a monopsony. "A monopoly refers to a seller that has too much power over consumers; a monopsony has too much power over suppliers. In this case, the government says those suppliers are authors"

From in the latest : “What libraries do is they buy, preserve and lend…Publishers are saying that you may not buy, you may not preserve and you may not lend except under exactly the circumstances that I tell you.”

Publishers don’t want libraries to have a digital future. Look no further than this lawsuit to shut down the Library and many other public libraries’ ability to loan digital copies of the millions of physical books they OWN for proof.

Watching S3E2 of @evil and they mentioned the @waybackmachine. When that didn’t work, they switched to the “wayback wayback machine”, an “app of my own creation”, and then the “wayback wayback wayback machine”. Gibberish, of course, but fun nonetheless.
