The story of a young boy who (along with all his friends) idolizes the pilots of the giant military robots. When he finds a soldier and his robot hidden in the forest, the boy quickly agrees to help this new friend, not knowing the soldier is an enemy spy. As the war between the two nations grows in intensity, the boy comes to learn that the war is not as simple as it seems, and that good and evil are not what everyone says they are.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket Ratings & Reviews
- flavo43November 21, 2025My all-time favourite Gundam series. Although its animation has long since been eclipsed by more recent entries in the franchise, the storytelling still cuts deep and refuses to let go. It stays true to the spirit of the original series—where war was never just cool mobile suit battles, but a grinding tragedy with real human cost. What sets this one apart is how it filters that same brutality through a child’s perspective, making the consequences feel even more raw and immediate. Everyday moments, friendships, and small joys are constantly overshadowed by machines and soldiers passing through, turning the battlefield into something heartbreakingly personal. The emotions and trauma of war that the original Gundam tried to show are not only preserved but sharpened, stripped of romanticism. It’s less about heroic pilots and more about the collateral lives caught in the crossfire, which is why it still hits as hard today.
- NonPlayableContentApril 12, 2025One of the best if not the best of the whole series, it will leave you with a grasp of what all the Gundam shows want you to feel. Lose, less than happy endings, and grim reality checks the whole time. Space operas are worth a shot and this is the best one to start with.
