Greer, owner of Y-EAT Right…Nutritional Consultant for Healthy Living, conducts special workshops to promote healthy nutritional and living behaviors. She has been featured on talk radio, TV and print media including in the health promotion television documentary entitled…A Silent Threat – Heart Disease in African American Women (2003). The goal of the nutrition segment was to enhance the awareness of African American women of heart healthy eating and food preparation techniques to prevent heart disease through the demonstration of three heart healthy recipes. Ms. Greer was also interviewed for a featured article in the Madison Times Newspaper as a follow-up to the nutrition workshop Celebrating Life with Healthy Eating and Physical Activity, sponsored by the African American Health Network of Dane County (2005). She filmed an episode at a local supermarket for the Channel 10/36 TV program, Black Nouveau, speaking on the topic “Healthy Shopping on a Budget” which aired in March 2011 and was repeated several times throughout the summer. As a “Power to End Stroke Ambassador,” Greer has worked closely with the American Heart Association to promote awareness and skills for heart disease and stroke prevention in at risk populations (2006-present). In 2013, Ms. Greer was an expert contributor to the Get Active Today Health and Wellness website, writing a weekly nutrition column (Jan.-Sept., 2013). Ms. Greer held the position of Nutritionist Coordinator with the City of Milwaukee Health Department for 22 years before taking early retirement (Dec. 2011) to pursue her private practice business full time. There she provided phone counseling and referral services, case management consultations, inservice training to public health nurses and clinical staff on Nutrition Throughout the Lifecycle, and developed the School Nutrition Starter Packet with curriculum and tools to guide the School Nurse nutrition interventions throughout the year. Additionally, in collaboration with the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), Ms. Greer assisted in the development and implementation of the MPS District Student Nutrition and Wellness Policy. She was an active member of the MPS Student Nutrition and Wellness Team which developed an online School Nutrition and Physical Activity Environmental Assessment Tool that is now a requirement to be completed annually by all 210 MPS schools, with improvement goals identified to guide actions to be conducted throughout the year. She continues to work collaboratively with the MPS Office of Prevention and Wellness on grant collaborations that aim to develop evidenced based curriculum for staff and community training around healthy eating and physical activity. Ms. Greer has provided citywide coordination and support for community wellness programming and nutrition campaigns such as B.R.A.N.C.H Out Church Based Health and Wellness Program (2004-2010), Stepping Up to a Healthy Lifestyle (2008-2010), The Business Case for Breastfeeding (2010-2011), and the Let’s Move Childcare Campaigns (Winter, 2011). In 2014, Ms. Greer worked with Fresh & Safe Food Distribution and Catering, a private school food service company, to develop school menu cycles for Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter seasons that met the new National Nutritional Standards for Reimbursable School Meals and sat on the advisory committee of several groups, including the Milwaukee Area Technical College Dietetic Technician/Dietary Managers and the Career Youth Development (CYD) Advisory Committee. In recent years, Ms. Greer has been a partner in four grant initiatives: the Milwaukee Childhood Obesity Prevention Program, a 4-year Robert Wood Johnson Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities Initiative (2010-2013), the Milwaukee Mobile Market Nutrition Education Project (2010-2012), the Growing Your Future Project (Youth Gardening and Future Empowerment Program, Summer/Fall 2012 & 2013), a collaborative grant of the Milwaukee Childhood Obesity Prevention Program and the Wisconsin Beverage Association, and the Children’s Outing Association (COA) Healthy Lifestyle Initiative (Jan. 2013 - Jan. 2014). And, beginning in 2014, Ms. Greer launched her Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) Private Practice, as an approved Medicare Non-Physician Provider for Diabetes and Kidney Disease counseling and have expanded her consulting into Group Homes. (i.e., SunVale Homes, LLC). Ms. Greer has presented poster sessions and lectures on numerous occasions locally, nationally and internationally, most notably at the 2007 Community-Campus Partnerships for Health Conference in Toronto, Canada, the 2008 International Congress of Dietetic (ICD) in Yokohama, Japan, the 2010 American Dietetic Association Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo in Boston, MA, the 2011 American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Expo in Washington D.C., the 2014 (June) Invitational Workshop for Diary Economists and Policy Analysis in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and at the 2014 (October) Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Food and Nutrition Conference & Expo in Atlanta, GA. Additionally, she has annually presented the topic Diet and Nutrition in Public Health (Guest Lecturer) at Marquette University, Department of Clinical Laboratory Science, College of Health Sciences, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 2009-2014. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Greer graduated from Washington High School (1972). She obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Dietetics and Experimental Foods from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point (June 1976); completed a Dietetic Internship at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. (July 1977); received a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health (June 2000); the Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) designation from the Academy of Lactation, Policy, and Practice (February 2010), and is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Public Health (DrPh) at Walden University (2014 – 2017).
