John McClure
Dr John McClure is Emeritus Professor in Psychology at Victoria University of WellingtonHe has led and collaborated in programmes of research on risk and hazards, with particular reference to clarifying factors that impede actions to mitigate hazards and reduce people’s risk. This research has focused on hazards such as earthquakes and climate change but has generic relevance to all risks and hazards. He has published over 100 publications on these issues, many in peer reviewed international journals. and have obtained a significant number or research grants on these issues. This research has clarified the basis of people's risk perception and judgment that lead them to overestimate or underestimate different risks and hazards and has clarified which communications and messages lead people to be less fatalistic and passive in regard to hazards and take more appropriate actions. He also researches social aspects of brain injury.
