This thesis is part of a reflection on the process of revitalization of a railway brownfield into... more This thesis is part of a reflection on the process of revitalization of a railway brownfield into a green public space in a wider context of the revitalization of an urban center. Our study consists of grasping the influence of the stakeholders in the conversion projects and identifying elements on the level of ownership of the local population at the site in question. That is why we have focused our study on the implemented strategies such as participatory processes and placemaking. This thesis is developed around the analysis of the site of the High Line at the city of New York, as a railway brownfield converted into public green space. ln addition, through the analysis of participatory processes and placemaking, we demonstrate participatory planning efforts, the forces at play and its impacts on the neighboring community - in order to understand the extent to which this railway brownfield meets the needs of the environment and is appropriate for its close neighbors. This analysis allows us not only to understand the process of revitalization of the railway brownfield into green public space but also to contemplate how redevelopment strategies have an impact on its environment and reflect the actual success of these achievements.
