Deb CHATTOPADHYAY
Deb is a power systems engineer and economist with significant experience on energy market design and analysis to address market operation, planning and policy issues. He held a tenure-track position at University of Canterbury as a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor in North America) until late 2000, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) at the University of Queensland. Deb has been in a full-time consulting role from 2000-2012 as a Director with Charles River Associates (2000-2009) and Deloitte Australia.
Deb has contributed to the academic literature on power system economics and has published more than 50 papers in reputed journals such as IEEE Transactions on Power Systems.
Deb has done a significant volume of work a range of energy sector issues throughout Australasia over the last 24 years. These include: interconnection benefit assessment, climate change policy analysis, electricity supply reliability, design of electricity markets, nodal pricing of electricity, portfolio risk analysis, renewable energy integration in electricity grids, cost benefit analysis of smart metering and analysis of renewable energy policies. Deb is a recognized expert on these issues in Australia/New Zealand and has also worked extensively on these issues in Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong and South Asia. In addition to energy, Deb has also undertaken economic analysis of water, telecom and rail networks.
He has worked in India, New Zealand, Australia and currently based in Washington DC.
