A smart wireless glove for gesture interaction

Published: 11 August 2008 Publication History

Abstract

This work presents a proximity-aware smart wireless glove to be used as a gesture interface. The system is based on commodity components and combines accelerometers and bend sensors. The glove, that features on-board intelligence and can be associated to any Bluetooth device in a user-transparent way, can be wirelessly programmed and combined with other gloves or other motion sensors within a body area network. The system has been tested in a number of challenging applications: 3D game environment, interaction with 3D graphical shapes, music in a MIDI application, as a pointing device in a cultural heritage application.
