ABSTRACT Detailed study of the Khatyspyt Formation in arctic Siberia has shown that, contrary to ... more ABSTRACT Detailed study of the Khatyspyt Formation in arctic Siberia has shown that, contrary to common expectations, the earliest ichnofabric is of late Ediacaran age, records a food-seeking behavior, and is found in a distal carbonate ramp setting where it co-occurs with fossils of Avalon-type Ediacaran soft-bodied organisms. Preserved depth of bioturbation reaches 5 cm. The ichnofabric solely comprises Nenoxites, the oldest known meniscate trace fossil, which is interpreted as burrows with terminal backfill structure formed as a result of active displacement of sediment to form a tunnel within the substrate, followed by emplacement of the material behind the animal as it progressed through the sediment. In addition to being the most reliable paleontological evidence for the existence of bilaterians at ca. 555 Ma, the late Ediacaran bioturbation is regarded as a key step in the escalatory "engineering" of Phanerozoic ecospace leading to sudden diversification of macroscopic organisms and macrocommunities.

The isoelectric points of four shale samples from the Setap Formation, Sarawak basin, Malaysia, w... more The isoelectric points of four shale samples from the Setap Formation, Sarawak basin, Malaysia, were determined and characterised using electrophoretic mobility analysis. The values recorded are relatively low within the acidic range of 2.61–4.87. These values were accounted for by the presence of organic matter and kaolinite mineralogical composition. A positive correlation existed between recorded IEPs and TOC. An average IEP of 3.69 was assigned to the Setap Formation. All the IEPs reported for the samples were relatively lower than the native pH of the samples which suggested that the shales from the Setap Formation will predominantly exhibit cation exchange capacity in situ.

Bajo el lema "La Paleontologia en los museos" se abordan diferentes aspectos planteados en torno a la relacion entre el patrimonio paleontologico y los museos como agentes fundamentales de la gestion de aquel (en terminos de investigacion, conservacion, difusion, educacion y aprovechamiento para el desarrollo social) y se plantean experiencias aportadas desde buen numero de instituciones espanolas, publicas y privadas, entre ellas el Museo Paleontologico de la Universidad de Zaragoza.

(2017) and Pates and Daley (2017) reinterpreted a number of presumable xenusians (lobopodians) and described some new fossils from various Cambrian Lagerstätten as radiodontan (anomalocaridid) frontal appendages. The authors suggested that some features including overall length of a specimen, a number of tentative podomeres, a number of ventral blades (spines) and dorsal spines, their morphology, and an angle between the dorsal and ventral surfaces (θ) of a specimen provide enough information for a fairly good morphological description and a relevant systematic interpretation of stem group ecdysozoans. The case of xenusian Mureropodia apae from the lower Cambrian Valdemiedes Formation of Murero, northeastern Spain (Gámez Vintaned et al. 2011), which Pates and Daley (2017) identified as radiodontan Caryosyntrips cf. camurus, does not verify a plausibility of such a reductive approach.

Se presentan las diferentes unidades bioestratigráficas definidas en estas regiones y se revisa su área geográfica de aplicación. Finalmente se refieren los problemas aun no resueltos.

A gradual transition across the Neoproterozoic-Cambrian boundary is present in Central Iberia, whereas in the Cantabrian region and the Iberian Chains Lower Cambrian arenaceous successions rest with profound angular unconformity on Neoproterozoic turbidites. In Central Iberia, the Neoproterozoic sedimentary succession is referred to the informal Domo Extremeño group, representing mostly basinal facies, and the overlying Rio Huso group consisting of slope deposits and proximal turbidites that grade into shallower marine deposits. The latter is inferred to represent distal slope to outer platform depositional conditions and contains widespread carbonate olistostromic units. The position of the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary is within the Pusa shale of the Rio Huso group and can be correlated at the regional level by the occurrence of trace fossils, acritarchs, and in particular the abundant shelly metazoan Cloudina.
