This work examines “Two Women,” one of the most remarkable works of Alberto Moravia, and the cine... more This work examines “Two Women,” one of the most remarkable works of Alberto Moravia, and the cinematic transposition by Vittorio De Sica. Our main focus is on the narrative and cinematographic interpretation of the respective works. The writing of the novel, based on the experience of Moravia when he had to flee Rome in 1943, was suddenly interrupted after eighty pages and completed ten years later until its final publication in 1957. The 1960 film “Two Women,” shot by Vittorio De Sica, features Sophia Loren. Two years later, she received the Academy Award for Best Actress for her interpretation of Cesira. In the introduction, we explain the term ‘neorealism’: the movement which emerged shortly after World War II also as a reaction to the passivity of Italian intellectuals during the years of fascism. From then on, many artists have been expressing their wartime life experiences more objectively and faithfully. The analysis examines the Italian post-war neorealistic style of fiction by Moravia and of film by De Sica. Both artists bring out Italian reality of that period without filters, representing the conditions for women during and after the Second World War.
In this thesis were presented the life and works of one of the most famous Italian writers but al... more In this thesis were presented the life and works of one of the most famous Italian writers but also worldwide, Dante Alighieri. The attention is especially focused on the project and the synthesis of the first treaty about vulgar language, On the Eloquence of Vernacular. The treaty, written during the exile, between 1303 and 1305, before the Comedy. Of the four books envisaged, only two have seen the light and these have been examined taking into account the theories of the main linguists. In the introductory, it is explained the meaning of the term ‘father of the Italian language’ which attributes to the author primarily because he was among the first who truly believed in Italian language using, in his works, the vulgar in the various stylistic levels. Furthermore, the attention is drawn to the vulgarity in the 14th century, the relationship between Latin and vulgar language, but also to the authors who, together with Dante, have contributed to the development of Italian language and literature.
