The opened window is used as an image of the revelation of the truth. Specifically, the second part of the essay analyses the distinctive features of La Finestrina and highlights Alfieri’s sceptical view.

Nel corso dell'elaborato si dà inoltre conto sia del giudizio alfieriano su Virgilio, sia dell'immersione dell'autore nel mondo della classicità, sia, infine, dei ricorrenti fenomeni intertestuali che percorrono l'intera versione

VI, 817-823, which focus on the character of Brutus, the founder of Roman Republic and one of the first Consuls. After the analysis of the Latin passage, in which particular attention is payed to the syntactic structure and to its importance for the right interpretation of the passage, the paper focuses on Alfieri's works that deal with the same theme, namely the essay Del Principe e delle Lettere and the tragedy Bruto Primo. The main purpose of the paper is to show how the Vergilian passage influences Alfieri's works and why it determines a shift in Alfieri’s attitude towards the subject from his essay to his tragedy and translation. The conclusion is dedicated to the analysis of Alfieri’s translation: the Italian author can be finally defined as a faithful and penetrating translator, though in the essay Del Principe e delle Lettere his opinion on Vergil and on his representation of Brutus was very critical.
