The relations between education and landscape is a key issue within the current academic debate a... more The relations between education and landscape is a key issue within the current academic debate as well as a topic of numerous reflections and practices concerning the application of the European Landscape Convention. This article responds to the need for a greater knowledge of the Italian context, presenting the results of an online survey, which led to the mapping of numerous educational projects and teacher’s training activities, carried out between 2015 and 2017. From the analysis of the data it is possible to recognize some differences between school and non-formal education contexts, as well as common traits, such as the widespread tendency to consider mainly the transformations of the landscape that occurred in the past. Five different ‘ideas of landscape’, underlying the activities, have been also identified, testifying the multidimensionality and the richness, though not always fully grasped, of the concept of landscape as an object and a tool in educational contexts.

Following the entry into force of the European Landscape Convention, the issues of participation ... more Following the entry into force of the European Landscape Convention, the issues of participation and involvement of the public and the attention to the landscapes of everyday life can not be forgotten. In the Italian case, these issues do not be easily reconciled with the more traditional approach in landscape policies, aimed primarily to preservation through exceptional measures imposed from above. Possible contradictions and inconsistencies emerge, as well as misuses of the very idea of landscape, caught between stereotypes, regulatory rigidities, expectations of local communities and rhetorical speeches. Il concetto di geo-ecosistema è utilizzato per illustrare la complessità dell’ambiente carsico, in cui si riconoscono diverse componenti che interagiscono tra loro. Tra i processi che si instaurano dalle relazioni tra componenti, il principale è quello della soluzione-deposizione del carbonato di calcio; ma, accanto a questo e in relazione con questo, altri processi, che coinvolgono anche l’ambiente biotico e che sono spesso modifi cati dalla presenza dell’uomo, sono importanti per comprendere le dinamiche del sistema.

The current transition to renewable energy, established within the frame of sustainable developme... more The current transition to renewable energy, established within the frame of sustainable development policies, as it is known, is plagued by contradictions and opacity, stimulating a considerable debate over the last few years, in which landscape often occupies a significant role. The aim of this article is to critically explore the perspective of the landscape discourse in order to interpret the territorial transformations related to renewable energy in a broader way than merely focusing on aesthetics. In particular, it appears that reflecting on the invisible dimensions of the landscape can contribute to the debate. Thus, the attention is paid to some categories of invisible landscapes: the landscapes been deleted, buried, masked, removed or hidden; the projects remained without implementation; the reciprocal landscapes. ABSTRACT The first specific measures that the European Landscape Convention proposes in order to ... more ABSTRACT The first specific measures that the European Landscape Convention proposes in order to "achieve sustainable development" are devoted to "awareness-raising" and to "train- ing and education"; each Country has to "undertake to increase awareness" and "to promote (…) school and university courses". Considering the strong link existing between landscape issue and sustainability, landscape education is considered as one of the possible paths in ESD. The paper deals with objectives, strategies and methods of landscape education in its connec- tions with the features of ESD. The theoretical point of view is put in relationship with some examples of national and international projects and practices, in geography teaching and in other formal and informal contexts. In particular the author presents the Cultura2000 European project 3KCL - Karstic Cultural Landscapes as a best practice for education on landscape. In this project nearly 600 pupils of different school level in three areas of Italy, France and Slovenia approached their neighbour- ing landscape, got to know it through activities carried out with an interdisciplinary staff of researchers, and disseminated their results through a travelling exposition and the web site. The project's theoretical frame, structure and methodology, coherently conceived, present some interesting peculiarities: the strong relevance of the relationship dimension, at different levels; the scientific and critical approach to the complexity of landscape; the contemporane- ous relevance given to the emotional approaches, as a medium for a deeper and wider knowl- edge; the strong co-operation among researchers, teachers and pupils, oriented to a common aim; the both local (due to the focus on the neighboring landscape) and global dimension (due to the international perspective of the project). The project results can help in defining some guidelines for education on landscape, towards a higher relevance of landscape issue in the educational context.
