In clustered data, observations within a cluster show similarity between themselves because they ... more In clustered data, observations within a cluster show similarity between themselves because they share common features different from observations in the other clusters. In a given population, different clustering may surface because correlation may occur across more than one dimension. The existing multilevel analysis techniques of the primal linear mixed-effect models are limited to natural clusters which are often not realistic to capture in real-life situations. Therefore, this paper proposes dual linear mixed models (DLMMs) for modeling unobserved latent clusters when such are present in data sets to yield appreciable gains in model fitness and predictive accuracy. The methodology explored the development and analysis of the dual linear mixed models (DLMMs) based on the derived latent clusters from the natural clusters using multivariate cluster analysis. Overweight and obesity which are known to pose serious health problems are becoming increasingly ... more Overweight and obesity which are known to pose serious health problems are becoming increasingly prevalent in Nigeria which is a sub-Saharan African country. This study utilized the 2018 Nigeria Demographic Health Survey to examine demographic and socio-economic risk factors of overweight and obesity among Nigerian women aged 15-49 years. Exploratory analysis was used to provide basic description of the data while a semiparametric structured additive models was used to describe the relationship between the presumed factors and overweight and obesity status while also accounting for spatial effects at state level. The national prevalence of overweight and obesity among Nigerian women was found to be 27.4%. Increased risk of overweight and obesity among Nigerian women was found to be strongly associated with being older, high educational level, being rich, living in an urban area, having many children, being pregnant, and residing in southern part of Nigeria. Over the years, performance evaluations of students are based on qualitative facts, which are now becoming numerically inestimable as a result of uncertainty factors. Through fuzzy logic the qualitative terms like; low , medium and high ; low , moderate and high were numerically weighted during the final decision making on students’ performance. The key parameters were given weights according to their priorities through mapping of numeric results from uncertain knowledge. Mathematical formulae were applied to calculate the numeric results at the final stage. In this way, the developed fuzzy expert system was demonstrated to be an effective tool for evaluating the performances of candidates seeking for admission into Nigeria tertiary institutions. Methods: Feature selection interface of the algorithm employed the F-statistic of the ANOVA–like testing scheme at some chosen family-wise-error-rate which ensured efficient detection of false-positive genes. The selected gene subsets using the above method were further screened for optimality using the Misclassification Error Rates yielded by each of them and their combinations in a sequential selection manner. In a 10-fold cross-validation, the optimal values of the SVM parameters with appropriate kernel were determined for tissue sample classification using one-versus-all approach. In this paper, we compared different Parameter Estimation method of the two parameter Weibull-Ray... more In this paper, we compared different Parameter Estimation method of the two parameter Weibull-Rayleigh Distribution (W-RD) namely; Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE), Least Square Estimation method (LSE) and three methods of Quartile Estimators. Two of the quartile methods have been applied in literature, while the third method (Q1-M) is introduced in this work. The methods have been applied to simulate data. These methods of estimation were compared using Error, Mean Square Error and Total Deviation (TD) which is also known as Sum Absolute Error Estimate (SAEE). The analytical results show that the performances of all the parameter estimation methods were satisfactory with data set of Weibull-Rayleigh distribution while degree of accuracy is determined by the sample size.
