Despite its three editions (in Portuguese, 1760 and 1768, and in Latin, 1765), it has not received special attention from scholars interested in the Portuguese 18th century and in the history of the Portuguese mathematical logic. More than comparing it to two other works of the Portuguese 18th-century logic, by Azevedo Fortes and Verney (1751), or to inventory the foreign influences it reveals (Arnauld, Bacon, Descartes, Gassendi, Locke, Tosca, etc.), one proposes an interpretation that identifies the perennial philosophical problems that the interlocutors of the dialogue mention, but do not solve (e.g. distinction between logical-mathematical operations and phenomenal states of the human mind, reference, relevance). The chapter ends with a reflection on the way in which the dialogue between Fábio (a man well versed in all kinds of science) and Florêncio (a young man with a lively spirit) contributes to the understanding of the structure of rationality in the context of the human mind.
