Sonia Gsir
I have over eighteen years of professional experience in the field of migration and asylum. I hold a PhD Degree in Political and Social Sciences and a MA Degree in International Relations and European Politics from the University of Liege. Currently I work as a Migration Expert for Enabel, the Belgian Development Agency.
I am also scientific collaborator at the Centre for Ethnic and Migrations Studies, associate member of the Hugo Observatory on Environment and Migration (University of Liege) and associate member at the Laboratory Research on History of Mediterranean Economies and Societies (University of Tunis).
As a researcher and project officer at the Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies, I have been in charge of several research projects and networks and gained expertise on migration, integration and emigration policies, European migration policies, diaspora and transnational practices, migration and development, asylum seekers reception, migrant civic and political participation.
As a consultant and expert, I have coordinated the European Migration Network and also collaborated with the Council of Europe, IOM-Tunisia, the King Baudouin Foundation (KBF), the European Policy Centre (EPC), the Belgian Red Cross, the Migration Policy Group (MPG), the Belgian Fund for Scientific Research (FRS-FNRS) and INNOVIRIS.
With an extensive experience in carrying out and coordinating interdisciplinary research as well as migration experts networks, I also demonstrated my abilities in conducting interviews and focus groups, analysing policies, drafting reports and policy recommendations, developing and evaluating project proposals, and providing training to students and professionals.
