By referring to interactionist concepts and praxis, we attempt to present the realities of conducting intercultural (Polish-Israeli) youth meetings. The meetings allow to increase the chance of achieving positive results in the area of reducing mutual stereotypes and prejudice. The text attempts to indicate the possibilities of applying the theory of intercultural contact in praxis related to international Polish-Israeli projects which conform to the framework of intercultural education.Urszula Markowska-Manista: umarkowska@aps.edu.plDominika Zakrzewska-Olędzka: dzakrzewska@aps.edu.plUrszula Markowska-Manista - Katedra UNESCO im. We attempt to diagnose the current situation from the perspective of young scientists and identify good practices in the form of potentially supporting activities for their development. We appeal, among others to the term "mutual sharing" as a key factor for the development of a mutually enriching relationship. The issues raised in the project are a response to changes taking place in the modern world, which shape the need to verify and update the perception of the master's definition and the specificity of his relationship with the student, so that it corresponds to current needs.

Through reference to activities implemented there and oriented towards children, we discuss their problematic character connected with e.g. the absence of participatory, rights-based approach (art. 12 CRC) that serves children’s emancipation and equality. In the second part of the article, we propose the implementation of Janusz Korczak’s methods – solutions for participatory work with children (“underprivileged” groups), which seem both timeless and universal. An ethical and contextual adaptation or inspiration based on Korczak’s methods in work designed for backgrounds connected with children remaining in closed and semi-closed systems, provides a chance for children’s basic participation in decision-making in matters that concern their lives. At the same time, it is an opportunity to learn children’s opinions and an expression of respect for...

Referring to research (interviews) with parents of bilingual children from Warsaw, we will point to strategies employed by parents who communicate with their children in two or three languages. We will also draw attention to difficulties connected with dominant and non-dominant languages (the case of grandparents). In the second section, we will discuss diverse school environments and language in schools where bilingual children function. We also explore the argumentation of both parents deciding to enrol their bilingual children in state schools with Polish as the language of instruction, and those opting for enrolment in private schools with English as the language of instruction or social schools. The research material was collected among parents of bicultural and bil...

Referring to key categories - multilingualism and multimodality as key competences in the development of intercultural dialogue and international cooperation - we will outline the results of the study conducted among students participating in the Erasmus+ program. The research was carried out among students studying at one of Polish pedagogical universities between 2017 and 2019. The results reflect the experiences of students related to their participation in the program on its various stages, as well as the benefits which they observed from participating in the program and which are connected with multingualism and multimodali...
The modern, globalized world require from many persons to be in constant movement between not onl... more The modern, globalized world require from many persons to be in constant movement between not only geographical areas but also cultural circles. Representatives of various cultural, religious, national or ethnic groups meet on a daily basis as part of the education process, professional tasks or free time. Efficient functioning in such an environment is not possible without extended intercultural competences and creating open and tolerant society goes along with the need of breaking, rooted in tradition, stereotypes and prejudices. For a long time, a significant percentage of activities aimed at establishing relationships and cooperation between people from different cultures was based on the assumptions of the contact hypothesis, the essence of which is personal contact, exchange of experiences and verification of beliefs. This approach is reflected, inter alia, in in the European Erasmus + programs to support youth and academic mobility. Currently in the era of limitation of the possibility of movement caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic, most activities within education systems throughout Europe are carried out remotely. Contact mediated by new technologies very often lacks or significantly reduces the possibility of receiving non-verbal elements of communication, such as facial expressions, body language, proxemics or paralinguistic factors. The purpose of this article is to reflect on the effectiveness of actions based on the contact hypothesis in the case of distance contact and the need to search for new, alternative solutions in this regard. The starting point will consist of analysis of the benefits from implementing activities based on direct contact, on the example of the involvement of Erasmus+ program students in activities in the field of intercultural education in primary school. On the other hand, the difficulties observed in international projects, in which contact between participants due to the introduced restrictions must be mediated by the media will be described.

In the text, we also attempt to determine to what degree the process of adaptation of members of a community regarded as endemic is possible in a new environment.
