This analysis is extended to explain the effect of asymmetry on the emissions of parallel-connected GCIs on distributed power generation systems. The switching harmonics of a GCI appear as bands around the switching frequency and its multiples. A MATLAB/Simulink model is built to perform two studies. In the first study, we use one GCI to examine the effect of the parameters on the emissions, while in the second study, we examine the effect of the asymmetry of two parallel-connected GCIs on the total emission toward the grid. An actual setup is built to verify the results of the mathematical analysis and the simulation study. It is found that the SHs of single-phase GCI amplitude are strongly dependent on the DC-link voltage and the coupling inductor, while the phases of the sideband harmonics only change with changing the inj...

In this paper, an extension of the research results presented in our paper “On the Remote Calibration of Voltage Transformers: Validation of Opportunity” published in AMPS 2018 was undertaken by reporting on how temperature could increase the measurement uncertainty contributed by voltage and current transformers. This was needed to better understand if remote calibration could be realized under real-world conditions where temperatures at different geographical locations could be significantly different. This paper describes the influence of magnetic voltage, current transformers, and capacitive voltage transformers. Based on the research in this paper, one could conclude that the influence of magnetic voltage transformers (MVTs) is low, but, especially with cu...

RE/SOURCED, which stands for Renewable Energy SOlutions for URban communities based on Circular Economy policies and Dc backbones, is a project that aims at implementing a renewable energy community at the former power plant site in Belgium. One of the novel aspects of the project is the interconnection of the different energy storage systems and renewable energy sources by means of a LVDC backbone. In this paper, a power flow analysis of the LVDC backbone is performed in order to determine the appropriate cable size. Based on this analyses the energy losses are computed for a LVDC backbone architecture. Subsequently, the benefit in terms of energy savings, self-consumption and self-sufficiency is investigated compared to the traditional grid architecture.

The main difficulty in reaching a standardized measurement method is finding a suitable power source. The low-frequency and high-frequency content of the power supply is deterministic for the measured emission, as well as the source impedance. Measurements and analyses are done on both PV-inverters and compact fluorescent lamps to see the influence of the source on the emission.

Four developments directly related to smart-grid technology are covered: microgrids; advanced voltage control; feeder reconfiguration; and demand-side management. Four developments indirectly related are also covered: new sources of electricity production; increased used of active power-electronic converters; shift from overhead lines to cables; and new types of lighting. The TB also summarizes the discussions related to new measurement techniques and new mitigation methods and presents the main findings, recommendations and open issues.

This pap er gives a comprehensive overview and better understanding of the real challenges related to measurement techniques in future networks.
