ABSTRACT Information technologies have been increasingly used in education in recent years, mainl... more ABSTRACT Information technologies have been increasingly used in education in recent years, mainly due to their possibilities of improving the classroom experience, especially those related to multimedia facilities. The new technologies are especially useful for the Special Educational Needs (SEN) group. In this paper we introduce APADYT Professional (Aplicación Psicopedagógica para Apoyo en Diagnóstico Y Tratamiento—Psychopedagogical APplicAtion for supporting Diagnosis & Education), an application developed in collaboration with SEN teachers, children with SEN and parents. This multimedia application supports SEN treatment and it exploits multi-touch interfaces to offer SEN learners multimedia learning activities. The main advantage of APADYT Professional is that it helps teachers’ work by providing them with a single application that supports multiple tasks. In this way APADYT fills the gap in the existing applications, by supporting pupil management, computer-assisted learning process, report generation, planning, communication between parents and specialists, authoring tools and others interesting facilities in an integrated way. User-centered techniques have been successfully used for the development of APADYT, as the results of the User eXperience (UX) assessment reported in this paper shows, These results also shows that the approach followed to design this multimedia application is extremely appreciated by SEN teachers and specialists.

ABSTRACT Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is a very active topic of research that is gaining more and m... more ABSTRACT Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is a very active topic of research that is gaining more and more attention because of its characteristics, transparency and intelligence. Older people is one of the collectives that can take advantage of the use of AmI systems because, thanks to these characteristics, AmI systems can focus on older adults’ real needs so that they satisfy one of their main motivations to adapt technological innovations: perceived benefits. And, perhaps, everything related to healthcare and home care is perceived by them as both valuable and beneficial. In this paper, it is presented the Multi-Agent architecture (MAS) of a healthcare AmI system to treat older people’ motor impairment problems by using specific devices to control the patient’s movements. In this way, the natural relationship between AmI and MAS is being widely exploited. AmI proposes the development of context-aware systems that integrate different devices to recognize the context and act accordingly. Agents provide an effective way to develop such systems since agents are reactive, proactive and exhibit an intelligent and autonomous behavior. One of the main differences of our system is that it provides therapist with support to design new therapies, to adapt them to each specific person and to control their execution instead of using a fixed set of exercises.
Pathfinding is one of the tasks, apart from graphics rendering, requiring most CPU resources. Alt... more Pathfinding is one of the tasks, apart from graphics rendering, requiring most CPU resources. Although there are many approaches to effectively solve pathfinding problems, they are becoming less suitable as more and more games have larger game worlds that dynamically change during the game play. These new games have more visually realistic graphics that increase the game characters realism but all these efforts may be useless if game characters perform dumb movements or follow inappropriate paths such as repeatedly walking close to an enemy or a predator while moving from one location to another. To tackle this problem we present in this paper an ant colony algorithm for path finding that takes into account the emotions of the game characters and we show how our approach is used in an augmented-reality educational game. The proposed algorithm is implemented on a GPU processor to demonstrate its scalability with large problem sizes when compared to its corresponding CPU version.

AVH are the perception of voices in the absence of auditory stimulation and represents a severe mental health symptom. Virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR) and brain computer interfaces (BCI) are technologies that are growing more and more in different medical and psychological applications. Our position is that their combined use in computer-based therapies offers still unforeseen possibilities for the treatment of physical and mental disabilities. Para realizar dichas tareas, los usuarios tienen que ser conscientes de las acciones de los demás usuarios, usualmente por medio de una serie de técnicas de awareness. En trabajos anteriores determinamos, por medio de estudios emp'iricos, que las técnicas de Ingenier'ia de Requisitos más adecuadas para especificar los requisitos de este tipo de sistemas son las aproximaciones Goal-Oriented, y más concretamente, la aproximación i*. En este art'iculo se presenta CSRML (Collaborative Systems Requirements Modelling Language): una extensión de i* para abordar la especificación de requisitos de sistemas en los que la colaboración y la consciencia de la presencia y/o las acciones de los otros usuarios es crucial. Para validar nuestra propuesta, se ha utilizado un caso de estudio en el que se modela un sistema de gestión de congresos en el que la revisión se realiza colaborativamente entre los distintos revisores.
