Improving the quality of training in educational institutions and preparing students for life in ... more Improving the quality of training in educational institutions and preparing students for life in this century requires the highest quality of training. This article therefore focuses on the employability-orientated curriculum that every geography departments should use to train its students. The study evaluated both the documented and taught curricula of geography departments in three public universities in Ghana. The study adopted the mixed methods case study design. A total of 288 respondents, comprising 260 students and 28 instructors were included in the study. The data collected were subjected to content analysis (i.e. qualitative analysis) and quantitative analysis with the aid of a computer software, SPSS version 21. The findings indicated that all the study's four employability skills domains were in the documented curricula, though with varying emphases. The quantitative findings showed that majority of the employable skills in the taught curricula had a moderate level of development, with the rest having received low level of development. Against these findings, the study recommended that the geography departments should review and restructure their curricula for the purpose of training graduates with the requisite employable skills to solve developmental challenges facing the nation.
