Japanese companies increased spending on plant and equipment by 7.4% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024, accelerating from a 6.8% rise in the first quarter and remaining positive for the thirteenth consecutive quarter. However, the latest figure missed market expectations for a 9.9% gain. Industries that contributed most to the gain in capital spending were production, transmission & distribution of electricity (31.9%), real estate (23.7%) and transportation equipment (20.6%).
