The seasonally adjusted estimate for total dwellings approved in Australia increased by 4.4% month-on-month to 14,842 units in September 2024, consistent with preliminary estimates and rebounding from a 3.9% decline in August. The increase was driven by a 4.7% rise in permits for private sector dwellings excluding houses and 2.2% growth in approvals for private sector houses. On a geographical basis, total dwellings approved went up in Queensland (14.3%), Western Australia (11.4%), South Australia (8.2%), Victoria (6%), and Tasmania (0.5%).
