Culinary Contest
A downloadable game
From all across the galaxy, chefs are being selected to participate in an exciting new reality holocast - the Intergalactic Culinary Contest. You were nominated by your peers to represent your stellar region's culinary prowess. Will you win the Culinary Contest?
The Game
Culinary Contest is no-prep, GM-less storytelling game for two or more players that takes somewhere around 60-90 minutes to play. It is easily playable over Zoom using the Tenkiwi platform.
Culinary Contest is much like a reality TV cooking show you might watch (Chopped, Guy's Grocery Games, Top Chef), but set in space. Players have just completed cooking a three course meal and are reviewing the footage and judging one another's work during each round to determine the winner.
Please note: This game is built into Tenkiwi and freely playable from there - you can try before you buy.
Gameplay
The story is driven by a series of prompts players take turns answering - narrating the actions they've just taken to the producers of the show to intersperse with the actual footage of the round.
To help keep the story flowing (and weird) - players are given a rotating wordbank of strange ingredients, interesting cooking methods, and futuristic adjectives to draw on any time they want.
Like many reality shows, Culinary Contest is semi-competitive. At the end of each of three rounds, players are asked to pick which opponent did best, and which did worst. Players can also influence scoring from the point of view of the audience - players can upvote and downvote each other for particularly good narration or anything else they might want.
Mr Pickles, a non-player character, is also part of the Culinary Contest, to give players a collective villain for their narration and someone to downvote if they want to play a more friendly game.
At the end of the third round, a winner is chosen based on the combination of audience scores and high votes. Do you have what it takes to help your chef come out on top?
Hackable Edition
Culinary Contest was built as an example of what the Tenkiwi platform can do and is free to play. This version gives you access to the prompts so you can modify them and make your own version of the game to play.
