Because his other name was way too weird.

Aimless should have been called "Useless". This Nebulan's success rate when he tries to hit a target is unknown, because that would require him to, you know, actually try. Together with his Targetmaster partner Misfire, he's a danger to himself and others. Mostly others.

Can't you hit anything, Aimless?

"I think Aimless suits you better."

Aimless was a construction engineer on Nebulos who turned laziness into a business opportunity by accepting kickbacks for doing substandard work on the job. After several buildings under his supervision collapsed in a highly public manner, Aimless considered a career change. He signed up with the Decepticons while Lord Zarak and Scorponok were in favor on Nebulos, undergoing the bio-mechanical engineering process necessary to become a Targetmaster. He was partnered with Misfire and was involved in an ill-fated attempt to keep the Autobot Headmasters from escaping their imprisonment, which spilled out into the streets of Koraja. Aimless was a member of the Hive, the despotic rulers of Nebulos. When the Hive allied themselves with a group of Decepticons, he became the Targetmaster partner of Misfire. Aimless introduced himself to his new Decepticon partner with the line, "I live only to destroy our mutual enemies!" He then transformed into gun mode, dropped to the ground, and started randomly firing in all directions. After Misfire picked him, he told him that he thought the name Aimless suited him better.

When the partners first engaged in battle together, Misfire criticized Aimless's lack of marksmanship. (He's one to talk!) Aimless responded that this was to be expected, as he was new at this. The Rebirth, Part 2 Aimless and the Decepticon Targetmasters returned to Cybertron with the key to the Plasma Energy Chamber and Zarak's powerful new city-bot, Scorponok. Once the plasma energy was released, however, Scorponok was struck by the power and launched into deep space with Aimless and the other Decepticons still on board. The Rebirth, Part 3

Aimless and his five friends were refugees, having fled their home planet of Master when Scorponok and the Decepticons began an all-out siege on the world. They were being chased through space in their starship by the Decepticons when they came across the Battleship Maximus. Fortress gave them safe haven aboard his starship, and the Master citizens attempted to show their gratitude by removing the deadly plasma energy bombs Fortress was trying to dispose of. Their efforts came too late, however, as the plasma energy bombs exploded aboard their ship in space, bathing everyone nearby with energy. Miraculous Warriors, Targetmasters (Part 1)

Although they survived the explosion, for Aimless and two of his fellow refugees, the ending was not a happy one. The plasma energy somehow fused each of them to a different one of the Decepticon trio who had been attacking them, creating Targetmasters. Aimless was now the eternal partner of Misfire and became a member of the Decepticon army at his side. As a Decepticon, Aimless was forced to join in the invasion of his own planet. It looks like he's shooting lasers out of his breasts.

In a battle for the data of the Master Sword, Aimless bonded with Misfire to fight the Autobots. The Master Sword Is in Danger!! Aimless again joined his partner when the Autobot Targetmasters landed on Master to investigate the possible presence of the Decepticons. The two forces battled each other, and the Decepticons were able to wash the Autobots away in a surge of water from an elevated lake. The two forces battled each other, and the Decepticons were able to wash the Autobots away in a surge of water from an elevated lake. The Decepticon Targetmasters returned to the other Decepticons to report of their triumph over the Autobot Targetmasters. When the Autobot Headmasters sneaked into the Decepticon's hidden cavern base, the Targetmasters were there to greet them. A battle ensued that the Autobot Targetmasters joined, but the Decepticons eventually retreated. The Zarak Shield Turns the Tide

Caliburst, Blowpipe, and Aimless were later assigned to watch out for any intruders, and they spotted the Autobot Targetmasters. They went off to report their presence to the other Decepticons and joined their larger partners in attacking the Autobots. During battle, the Decepticons were distracted by an aircraft sent by the natives of Master, allowing the Autobots to escape. Nevertheless, the Decepticons were soon sicced on a Master city, killing the natives. The natives fought back with aircraft, and their combined efforts with the Autobots forced the lesser Decepticons to flee into Scorponok's transtector. After a showdown between the Zarak Shield and the Master Sword, the Decepticons left Master for Earth. Operation: Destroy the Decepticons

Aimless played part in the decisive battle with the Autobots at the North Pole. When the Final Formation put an end to Scorponok's machinations on Earth, the Decepticons retreated into space. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)

Legends comic

Years prior to becoming a Targetmaster, Aimless was one of six Master warriors who were kidnapped by Scorponok and exposed to plasma energy, removing their ability to speak. When Scorponok returned to Master in 2011 and tried to recapture them and continue his experiments, the six of them fled from the planet. Mutant Targetmaster Birth Chapter

In 2021, Aimless and the Decepticon Targetmasters were battling their Autobot counterparts in space when Scorponok detonated a black hole, creating a plasma energy shockwave that caused the smaller Targetmasters to vanish. Targetmaster Chapter Prologue When they were located in the void of space, the six had been supercharged with plasma energy and gathered together into a clump of guns. The Decepticon Targetmasters attempted to transport them into the Legends World using Alpha Trion, but the plasma energy was too dangerous and Trion instead scattered them across the dimension. Mutant Targetmaster Birth Chapter Furthermore, the combination of plasma energy with the Legends World's unique energies mutated the Targetmasters, granting them new powers. Bonus Edition Vol. 45

Upon rediscovering Aimless, Misfire found that his gun mode was now capable of manipulating time, an ability he used to see into the future and get rich by trading stocks and gambling. When Hot Rod and Shaoshao Li came to seize Aimless, Misfire fired him at Hot Rod only to miss and hit Shaoshao, reverting her age to that of an infant. Misfire then tried to defeat Hot Rod by predicting his future moves, but remained so shoddy at aiming that he was defeated regardless, and he and Aimless were taken into custody. Bonus Edition Vol. 52 Slugslinger later stole Aimless and combined him with Caliburst and Blowpipe into the Plasma Energy Chamber, a mighty plasma energy gun with which he planned to eliminate all other Transformers. He was defeated by Shaoshao, Sue Faireborn and White Lune, liberating the three Targetmasters. Bonus Edition Vol. 55

HM issue 7 Decepticon Targetmasters.jpg

Aimless and the Decepticon Targetmasters attempted to disrupt the Autobots' efforts to put out a blazing fire on Earth. The Autobots' split focus left them vulnerable, until the Battleship Maximus extinguished the entire fire in one sweep. Ricochet and Artfire then turned their full attention on Aimless and his allies, driving them from the scene. The Headmasters #7

Ladybird Books continuity

On planet Nebulos, all energy was derived from pulsar emanations concentrated at the north pole instead of blanketed solar energy. When the Decepticon Targetmasters learned of this, Cyclonus order Aimless to engineer a means of capturing this energy. Under Misfire's supervision, Aimless planned the construction of a massive tetrahedron to act as an energy interceptor. Unfortunately, the Autobots sabotaged his work after it was completed, and Aimless was forced to start over, designing a sturdier interceptor. His new tri-dome interceptor was now defended by Scorponok and the entire Decepticon army instead of a meager guard force. However, the seemingly steady foundation of solid ice was melted by the Autobots' thermal lasers, reducing it to slush and once again destroying the interceptor. Decepticons at the Pole

Aimless was an ancient Titan Master partnered with the Decepticon Misfire. He granted his partner the ability to produce an ultra-powerful ion particle fireblast; unfortunately, he lacked the power to improve Misfire's aiming capabilities.[1]

Pick a mode, kids! He'll break if you transform him too much!
  • Misfire (Targetmaster, 1987)
  • Takara ID number: D-89
Released in the fourth year of Hasbro's US The Transformers toyline (third year in Europe and in Takara's Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers line), Targetmaster Aimless transforms into a double-barrelled ion particle blaster via a simple one-step transformation.
Unfortunately, this single transformation joint is a fairly tight clip-joint with four ridge-and-groove points per side in a pseudo-ratchet-joint, meant to soft-lock him in gun and robot modes. These put outward-pushing pressure on the clip halves during transformation, making it prone to breaking after repeated use. Consider yourself lucky if you find an intact one these days. Sanding down the ridges on the pegs can resolve this problem, though obviously there's the risk of breaking the clips when pulling the legs off or putting them back on to do so. Good luck!
Aimless was only available packed with his larger Targetmaster companion, Misfire. Aimless can be placed in either Misfire's hands or on top of his vehicle mode thanks to the use of 5 mm posts and holes.

I live only to destroy our mutual enemies!... So who are they, again?
  • Aimless (Arms Micron, 2011)
Arms Micron Aimless is a redeco of Power Core Combiners Throttler, transforming into a drill-weapon that can be held by any figure with a 5 mm post-hole in their hand, though as Aimless's head is painted all the way around, caution should be used to prevent scraping. The drill section can also rotate separately from the connector/front torso section, though it requires mounting on a Powerlinx hardpoint to use this feature, plus the swivel joint is fairly tight, making the feature more or less worthless (and dangerous, given his use of more fragile transparent plastic).
He was only available as part of the Prime "Arms Micron Present Campaign", given away free with the purchase of 3000 yen's worth of Prime: First Edition toys at Joshin Denki and Bic Camera stores throughout Japan on December 28, 2011.
This mold was also used to make Groundbreak.

Titans Return

Not breakable, but somewhat easily lost. And oh so prettily painted!
  • Aimless & Misfire (Deluxe Class, 2017)
Released in the fifth wave of Hasbro's Titans Return line, Aimless is a redeco and retooling of Blowpipe, transforming from tiny robot to his larger pack-in partner Misfire's head, based on Misfire's Marvel character model. He is also compatible with any Titans Return Titan Master mini-vehicle/beast, or any Deluxe, Voyager, or Leader Class figure.
This wave had incredibly spotty distribution in the US, making some of the figures in this wave considerably more costly on the secondary market than much of the rest of the line.

  • Targetmaster Missfire[sic] (Deluxe, 2017)
Released in the twenty-third wave of TakaraTomy's Legends toyline, this version of Aimless transforms into a double-barreled blaster not unlike his original toy, this time less breakable and more posable in robot mode.
He was only available with the Deluxe-sized Legends Misfire, replacing the twin guns of the original Titans Return mold, thus the slight retooling of Misfire to give him a central 5 mm weapon port. Misfire still comes with a tiny head-robot, but that's just Misfire again this time around.

  • Aimless (Battle Master, 2019)
  • Hasbro ID number: WFC-S17
  • TakaraTomy ID number: SG-15
  • TakaraTomy release date: April 27, 2019
  • Accessories: Cannon, 2 "Fire Blast effects"
Part of the second wave of Siege "Battle Masters", Aimless is a partial retool of Blowpipe that keeps the torso but replaces the rest with new sculpts based specifically on the above Legends toy, transforming from robot to the "Manifold Ion Particle Blaster" and back. The actual gun barrel piece can detach from his back, revealing a 3 mm peg, and connect to his arm as a cannon (though its sheer size & weight makes him easy to tip over).
He includes two "Fire Blast" effect pieces that can be used to simulate his blaster mode firing, and can slot onto the various hardpoints found on other figures and weaponry from the same subline to simulate blaster fire or explosions.

    • Wave 3: War for Cybertron: Siege I
    • Rarity: UT
    • Card Number: T25/T48
    • Stars: 7
Raider Aimless, Air Force-Weapons is one of forty-eight double-sided character cards available in Wave 3 of the Transformers Trading Card Game, War for Cybertron: Siege I. As a Battle Master, Raider Aimless, Air Force-Weapons begins the game in Bot Mode. Instead of being sent to the KO Area once his Health drops to zero, the card is flipped to the Upgrade side, becoming the Manifold Ion Particle Blaster, and equipped in the Weapons slot of another character on the player's side of the battlefield . In order to represent Aimless' size as a Battle Master, the card is the size of a battle card, about half the size of a normal character card.
The artwork for Bot Mode is reused from the Siege Aimless toy's packaging art. The Duo-Charge Electrostatic Photo Cannon received original artwork, with line-art by Dan Khanna and colors by Alex Tarca.
