Por último, se aborda su recepción en Europa y los discursos construidos en torno a ellos, que establecieron precedentes para la positiva valoración del afamado primer envío cortesiano.
n May 1519, one year before Hernán Cortés’ first shipment arrived at Carlos V, the cleric Benito Martin presented to the king the precious objects rescued by Captain Juan de Grijalva with el señor Tabasco and the calpixques of Motecuzoma Xocoyotzin during 1518. Recovering private letters, pass licenses, tra-vel itineraries, colonial codexes and chronicles, the investigation analyzes this brief but decisive episode of the exchange and travel of almost one hundred and fifty Mesoamerican objects of typologies that were later iconic in early wunderkammers. Finally, it addresses their reception in Europe and the discourses constructed around them, setting precedents for the positive assessment of the famous first Cortés’s shipment.
