Academic research into homonormativity focuses primarily on mainstream queer representations, neglecting groups that challenge it or with little significance to the media. This study exposes the relevancy of radical queer thought in tackling homonormativity and proposes more attention be given, in academic research of homonormativity, to the representations and discourses of minoritarian queer groups most affected by its exclusiveness; those aware of the term and its assimilationist politics and therefore who react against it from their marginalisation.

The patterns of change and stability, cause and effect and time and space, related to film narrative, were analysed. The conclusion suggested a connexion between the depiction of birth, growth, and mortality through nature's imagery and the conceptualisation of death, ultimately finding a connection between the events narrated and a representation of life's cycle.

Through primary and secondary research, specifically related to gender and Spanish history, the project investigates through content analysis and representation the hypothetical reflection of such characters with Spain’s development after Franco’s dictatorship. The findings conclude, though not implicitly, that Almodóvar’s feminine universe echoes the reality of the political, social and cultural situation of Spain and suggests that his cinema is key to understanding the evolution of the country following the dictatorial Franco’s regime.
