Sally A Schaefer
Sally holds an MS in Information and Library Science from the University at Buffalo and an MA in Ethnomusicology from Cardiff University. Her information science studies focused on information management, including diverse information users, international librarianship, metadata and cataloging, database management, web development, music librarianship, and scholarly communication. She has a specific interest in managing online open access resources, particularly those related to music.
Sally's MA Ethnomusicology dissertation focused on Welsh traditional instrumental music repertoire and practice as a participant-observer at the local Welsh session in Cardiff, Wales. Her research explored a continuum of Welsh musical traditions stretching from the bardic tradition to the modern session, identifying trends in the texture of sacred and secular music throughout history, their connection to current trends in Welsh traditional music texture, and the significance of those trends to the musicians of modern Welsh traditional music.
Through her undergraduate and graduate study, she also conducted a wider study of Celtic and American traditional music, particularly fiddling styles and folk ballads, as well as introductory research on music and language, African and Middle Eastern music, and Chinese music theory.
