VIsceral is a new way to do freeform and ultralite roleplay. Gone are the days of "I attack with my sword" -stab your enemy in the throat! With VIsceral, players have unprecedented freedom to approach a situation, and the unique Challenge Dice system allows the GM to prescribe proportional mechanical weight to whatever course of action the player describes.

VIsceral is designed with the darker genres in mind. Grindhouse, dark fantasy, neo-noir, mythos, cyberpunk, etc. The freeform nature of the game means that it can be easily tailored to whatever genre or setting you want, but in the future I plan to update the game with optional rules modules to make this process easier.

All you need to play is a handful of d6, a trusted table of friends, the short two pages of rules, and some character sheets.

Content Warning: Because players are encouraged to describe actions in detail, there is less abstraction separating the player from the violence their character commits. This can be exciting, but also upsetting. Have a Session Zero to make sure everyone knows what they're getting into, and establish some safety tools like Lines & Veils, or the X-Card before play.

Love this system, it's a perfect fit for running and playing it solo

That's awesome! I hadn't considered it for playing solo, but it's always been best for smaller groups, and I really enjoy my solo testing and example writing so I guess I'm not totally surprised. I wonder if there's anything that could be done to optimize solo play with Visceral?

I have been singing the praises of this system on the Nerd's RPG Variety Cast. We've been using these rules for buddy cop / odd couple games and they work great! I hate to be a naysayer but I really liked the example of play.

Oh my god! Thank you! This is so cool you made my day. You've got yourself a new regular listener too, cool podcast and blog.

I think I'll add a separate document with play examples. I've also had a video in the works for a while now to show examples of play, since the game is a bit unique and is really aided by examples of play, I just didn't have room for it in the trifold format sadly.

I look forward to that! My podcast is taking a short break but I when it returns I'll definitely be discussing our continuing Visceral game.

Hey would you ve willing to do a screen version? The trifold i readable on screen with a little effort, but it would be nice

(+2)

Definitely! Do you have a preferred page size for screen reading? I'll work on this to come with my next update.
