CWE-674  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

A fix was pushed into the master branch but not yet published.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Uncontrolled Recursion via the lookup_handle_cname function when processing an unsolicited mDNS response containing a recursive CNAME record, where the alias and canonical name are identical. An attacker can cause a crash and exhaust the stack by sending a specially crafted mDNS response.

Note: This is only exploitable if AVAHI_LOOKUP_USE_MULTICAST is explicitly set in the record browser configuration.
