Carla Balocco was an Associate Professor and Researcher in Thermodynamics and Heat and Mass Transfer at the Department of Industrial Engineering, DIEF, University of Florence, Italy, until 2021. At present, she works at the Department of Architecture of the University of Florence. She graduated from the University Institute of Architecture in Venice (Italy), IUAV, in 1991. She served as an Assistant Professor and Lecturer in Thermodynamics and Heat and Mass Transfer at the Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Engineering of the University of Florence, Italy from 1991 to 1994. She received her Ph.D. in Energy Engineering from the Engineering Faculty of the University of Florence in 1995. She conducted post-doctoral research at the University of Florence (1995–1997), Technical University of Denmark, DTU (1997–1998), University of Siena (1998–1999), and University of Florence (2000–2002). She has been a Senior Lecturer in Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer at the Faculty of Engineering in the School of Engineering of the University of Florence (Italy) since 2002 and a Researcher since 2004. Her main fields of interest and research include thermophysics and simulation of the integrated building–plant system, studies on the optimal use of energy and air quality in historic buildings and conservation–protection of historic–artistic heritage, natural and artificial lighting, and control of solar radiation.
