Difficulties may occur in the diagnostic procedure, but recognition and adequate visualization of the anomaly is essential for proper patient management, especially in patients undergoing evaluation for percutaneous coronary intervention, coronary artery surgery or prosthetic valve replacement. In the present report, a patient who had undergone percutaneous coronary intervention for a right coronary artery lesion after inferior myocardial infarction is described. The anomalous origin of the left circumflex coronary artery arising independently from the right sinus of Valsalva was previously undetected.

The present study was designed to define the prevalence of MAU and associated cardiovascular risk factors among Turkish hypertensive outpatients. Representing the Turkish arm of the multinational i-SEARCH study involving 1,750 sites in 26 countries around the world, a total of 1,926 hypertensive patients from different centers were included in this observational and cross-sectional survey study. Patients with reasons for a false-positive MAU test were excluded. The prevalence of MAU was assessed using a dipstick test, and patients were inquired about comorbidities, comedication, and known cardiovascular risk factors. The overall prevalence of MAU was 64.7% and there was no difference between genders. Most of the patients (82.5%) had uncontrolled hypertension, 35.6% had dyslipidemia, and 35.5% had diabetes, predominantly type 2. Almo...

It is also well known that coronary artery disease incidence and related mortality and morbidity is low in communities applying Mediterranean diet. Turkey, having a high incidence of coronary artery disease, is unique because of the diversity of eating habits in different regions of the country. The inhabitants of Antalya region of interest in our study, are generally kept Mediterranean diet. We thought to determine the clinical and demographic features of the coronary artery disease patients living in the district of Antalya, and to find out if they correlate with Turkey's averages when compared. We also searched for the preventive effect of Mediterranean diet, if there was any. 516 patients, who were admitted to the department of cardiology, were investigated in terms of age, sex, smoking habits, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, family history, angina class, usage of aspirin and nitrates. The results revealed that clinical and demographical features of the coronary artery disease in the district of Antalya were similar with turkey's averages and that the benefits brought by the preventive effects of Mediterranean diet, might have been comprised by smoking.

However, little is known of the potential effects of late recanalization of chronic coronary artery occlusion on left ventricular function. To determine whether PCI improves regional and global left ventricular function in patients with chronic coronary artery occlusions. Thirty-five patients having at least one coronary artery occluded for six weeks or longer were included in the present prospective study. Exercise thallium-201 myocardial perfusion scintigraphy, multiple-gated acquisition ventriculography and two-dimensional echocardiography were performed in 19 patients (16 men; mean age of 58+/-5 years) who underwent a successful PCI to assess both regional and global left ventricular function before and six weeks following the procedure. The mean ejection fraction...
