Biography
Sidney Zisook, M.D., is Director of the University of California, San Diego Residency Training Program, Director of the UC San Diego Healer Education, Assessment, and Referral (HEAR) Program, Wellness Director of the Department of Psychiatry and a Distinguished Professor of Psychiatry at UC San Diego. Dr. Zisook received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley and his medical degree from Stritch-Loyola, Chicago. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and was a clinical fellow of Harvard Medical School.

Research Interests
Dr. Zisook’s research interests include 1) treatment of depression with a focus on "difficult to treat" depression; 2) psychedelic therapy for treatment resistant depression; 3) clinical characteristics and treatment of bereavement and prolonged grief disorder; 4) and preventing physician and other healthcare worker suicide.

Clinical Focus
Dr. Zisook’s major clinical foci are treatment of adult patients with bereavement and mood disorders and physicians with burnout, depression and suicide risk. Using an integrated approach which combines various psychotherapeutic modalities with pharmacotherapy, Dr. Zisook provides consultation for patients with particularly chronic and refractory conditions, individuals with prolonged grief reactions, and older persons with mood and/or anxiety disorders.
