Dora Finamore
Dora is a Purdue University Global full-time faculty member and also Senate elected member since 2022. Dora started her academic career in 2001, teaching a graduate course in psychology, and then went on to develop and teach Edu720, a graduate course in play therapy at St. Thomas University, in Miami, Florida for the summer of 2005. She served two, one-year terms on the task force for ethical assurance, for the Association for Play Therapy. She was also the editor of The Florida Play Therapy Association Newsletter for many years. and its treasurer for two years.
Dora started teaching at Kaplan as a part-time adjunct in 2004, and became full time adjunct in 2016. In 2018, the university transitioned into Purdue University Global. After many years of experience, she was offered a full time, faculty position at Purdue University Global in 2022. She also taught many graduate courses in a variety of subjects in the past 20 years. Dora has served as chair, and committee member on many dissertations. She is a member of Psi Chi, International Honor Society in Psychology- Lifetime Member (Inducted 1982), and attends Purdue University Global’s Psi Chi student association meetings. Dora is also an active member in the N.J. Professional Counselor Association and is a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in N.C. and LPC in N.J.
She has won teaching, research, and service honors, including being the recipient of 2002 Award for Serving Children and Families. Dora also was recognized by the Jewish Family and Children Services Association- 1999 Leadership Award presented at annual conference, Orlando, Florida. Dora’s research has been published in a wide variety of journals and books and she has been cited for her expertise on parenting and resilience in publications such as the Jewish Journal and The Palm Beach Post. She has been published in Sage for expertise on resilience.
Most recently, her research has been focused on studying The Effect of a Multifactor Orientation on Student Performance: Organizational Skills, Goal setting, Orientation to Classroom, and Academic Support with several colleagues.

She oversees numerous innovations in curriculum, including spearheading a recent major revision for a graduate positive psychology course. She values her background and experience in psychology and counseling as contributing to her success and leadership to help students stay motivated, engaged, and feel a sense of belonging as they begin their education or continuing on to the dissertation.
