The saloon keeper furnishes the funds and Arthur sues for Betty's hand. A hedge separates the Chesters' home from the home of Peggy McCann, who has a sweetheart named Denny. Betty appreciates the sincere love the two have for each other, for she questions the sincerity of her own suitor. One day in a brawl Arthur kills a man and endeavors to fasten the blame upon Denny. He also, in the struggle that ensues, accidentally shoots and seriously wounds Peggy McCann.
