Accounts created by emailing a password to a user should automatically be marked as email verified
Closed, DuplicatePublicBUG REPORT

Description

Steps to replicate the issue (include links if applicable):

  • Have a wiki where the settings require emails to be verified for editing (such as a new wikibase.cloud instance)
  • Create a new account in [[Special:CreateAccount]] by providing a username, and checking the option to send the user a randomly generated password by email
  • Log in with the new account
  • Try to edit a page

What happens?:

  • You are not allowed to edit, with a message saying that "You must confirm your email address before editing pages. Please set and validate your email address through your user preferences."

What should have happened instead?:

  • Since the only way for me to log in was to use the password sent to my email address, the email address in this case should automatically be marked as verified without me having to go through an extra step to send a verification email.

Software version (skip for WMF-hosted wikis like Wikipedia): MediaWiki 1.37.1
