Abstract
The invention relates to an extruded profile beam for fastening a plate-like parapet against the edge of a floor, for instance an elevated floor or balcony floor, comprising a receiving part for the plate-like parapet, wherein the receiving part is of substantially U-shaped cross-section, wherein at least one of the legs of the U-shaped cross- section diverge.
Description
PROFILE BEAM
The invention relates to an extruded profile beam for fastening a plate-like parapet against the edge of a floor, for instance an elevated floor or balcony floor, comprising a receiving part for the plate-like parapet, wherein the receiving part is of substantially U-shaped cross-section. Such profile beams are mounted against a rough edge of a floor during for instance the construction of a building. The profile beam is here secured to the edge of the floor by means of bolts. The profile beam can hereby deform, whereby the profile beam is no longer straight. This has the consequence that the plate-like parapet no longer fits properly, or at all, in the profile beam.
In order to prevent this, filling plates can be placed, during mounting of a profile beam, between the profile beam and the edge of the floor in order to ensure that the profile beam is straight in the mounted position such that the plate-like parapet fits into the profile beam.
Placing of the plate-like parapet normally takes place at a much later stage than mounting of the profile beam. It is therefore constantly necessary during mounting of the profile beam to measure whether the profile beam is still straight. It also the case that during placing of the plate- like parapet it is still found that the profile beam has not been mounted correctly.
It is now an object of the invention to reduce or even obviate the above stated drawbacks.
This object is achieved with a profile beam according to the invention, which is characterized in that at least one of the legs of the U-shaped cross-section diverges.
Because at least one of the legs of the U-shaped cross- section diverges, the opening of the receiving part is wider than at the bottom of the receiving part. A plate-like parapet can hereby still be placed in the receiving part even if the profile beam is not straight. The space between the receiving part and the plate-like parapet can then be filled with filling pieces.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the profile beam is in two parts, and fastening holes are arranged in the first part of the profile beam for the purpose of fastening the first part to the edge of a floor, and during use the second part covers the fastening holes. The advantage of a two-part construction is on the one hand that the fastening means can be concealed from view and on the other that the second part can be mounted at a later time, for instance when there is minimal danger of damage during construction.
In another embodiment of the invention the first part of the profile beam, as seen in cross-sectional view, is provided with a first hook part and the second part of the profile beam, as seen in cross-sectional view, is provided with a second hook part co-acting with the first hook part.
Through the use of hook parts the second part can be placed very easily once the first part has been mounted, for instance on a floor. Owing to the use of hook parts an accurate positioning of the second part relative to the first part is not essential.
The vertical load is preferably transferred from the second part of the profile beam to the first part of the profile beam only via the co-acting hook parts.
Because the vertical load is transferred only via the hook parts, it is easy during fitting of the second part to the first part to monitor whether the connection of the
second part to the first part is strong enough: when the hook parts mutually engage, the necessary strength will automatically be available to support the plate-like parapet and absorb the associated forces. In addition, it is recommended in one embodiment that the receiving part of U-shaped cross-section is arranged in the second part of the profile beam.
In yet another embodiment according to the invention the first and the second part of the profile beam together form the receiving part, and the second part substantially forms in cross-section a leg of the U-shaped cross-section.
This embodiment represents a simple embodiment, wherein the fastening of the first part is concealed from view by the second part. The second part can here be hollow, whereby the second part, being of lower weight, is easier to handle. Such an embodiment can for instance be applied as DIY solution.
The invention further comprises a combination of a profile beam according to the invention, a plate-like parapet placed in the receiving part of the profile beam and filling pieces placed in the receiving part on either side of the plate-like parapet, wherein at least the filling pieces on the side of the leg that diverges in cross-section are wedge-shaped. These and other features of the invention are further elucidated on the basis of the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a first embodiment of a profile beam according to the invention.
Figure 2 shows a cross-sectional view of a second embodiment of a profile beam according to the invention.
Figure 1 shows a profile beam 1 consisting of a first part 2 and a second part 3. Both parts 2, 3 are extruded profiles .
First part 2 is fastened by means of a bolt 4 to an intermediate floor 5. A covering floor 6 is further arranged on this intermediate floor 5.
First part 2 of profile beam 1 is secured in the cross- sectional view of figure 1 with only a single bolt 4. A plurality of fastening holes are arranged in longitudinal direction of first part 2 of profile beam 1.
First part 2 is further provided with a hook part 7 into which hooks a hook part 8 of second profile part 3. Via these two co-acting hook parts 7, 8 all vertical loads are transferred to first part 2 and, via bolts 4, to intermediate floor 5.
Second part 3 is provided with a receiving part 9 of U- shaped cross-section into which a plate-like parapet 10 is placed. The U-shaped receiving part 9 is formed by a first leg or wall 11 and a second leg or wall 12. These walls 11,
12 diverge away from each other so that at the top there is more space than at the bottom of U-shaped receiving part 9.
The plate-like parapet 10 can hereby be easily placed in receiving part 9. The plate-like parapet 10 is then clamped fixedly in U-shaped receiving part 9 by means of filling pieces 13, 14.
Figure 1 further shows a cover plate 15 which wholly conceals profile beam 1 from view. Figure 2 shows a second embodiment of a profile beam 20 according to the invention. This profile beam 20 has a first part 21, which is fastened via a bolt 22 to an intermediate floor 23, and a second part 24. Second part 24 is hollow and provided with a flange 25 which protrudes into a groove 26 in first part 21. This flange 25 ensures that in the assembled situation second part 24 is connected firmly to first part 21.
First part 21 and second part 24 together form a U- shaped receiving part 27 in which a plate-like parapet 28 is received. The U-shaped receiving part is bounded by a first leg or wall part 29 and a second leg or wall part 30. First wall part 29 forms part of second profile part 24.
Filling parts 31 and 32 are further arranged in order to clamp the plate-like parapet 28 fixedly into U-shaped receiving part 27.
