Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST A. PANNIER, a cltlzen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinols, have invented new and useful I'm rovements in Water-Heaters, of which the i hllowing is a specification.
This invention is a waterheater ada ted particularly for use in connection with a ctwater or steam heating system, and provides means whereby the heated water or steam used in the heatin system may be utilized for heatin water or the Water-supply system of the ouse or' building. The invention is particularly characterized by a cheap and improved construction of the heater, as will more fully appear from the following description.
In the accompanyin drawings, Figure 1 is a s1de elevation of the eater connected to a tank and boiler and illustrating one use to whichthe heater may be put. Fig. 2 is a central vertical section of the heater. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. v
Referring specifically to the drawings, 6 in-. dlcatesa steam or hot-water boiler of any desired construction, and in the utilization of the device for domestic purposes it is intended that this boiler shall be a part of the heatmg system. The boiler is connected b pipes 7 and 8 to the water-heater, ashereina ter described, these pipes being controlled by valves 7 and 8 and thewater-heater is connected by pipes 9 and 10 to the water-tank '1 1, which is a part of the water-supply system for the'house or other building.
' The lower header 19 s cast in one iece and has a central circular chamber 20, t e top of which is provided with taps 21, corresponding to the holes 16, and the lower ends of the pipes 18 are screwed inthe said taps. The bottom of the header 19 extends out beyond the side wall of the chamber 20 and is provided with an annular flange 22, which 1s spaced from the side wall of the chamber 20 and is interiorly threaded to receive the lower end of the outer pipe 12.
The i es 9 and 10 are ta ped into the side Wall 0 t e pipe 12, and al the connectlngpipes are provided with the necessary unions, elbows, '&'c.- The cap 13 is or may be provided with lugs 23 ,whereby the heater may be hung from-a beam or joist, or the heater may be supported from below by any suitable stand.
In assembling the parts the header 19 and plate 14 are screwed on oppositeends of the Y outer pipe 12. The inner pipes 18' are then inserted and screwed into the taps 21 and then expanded over the plate 14. The cap 13 is then screwed on and the proper connections made. l
The hot water or steam from the boiler 1s supplied through the pipe 7 and circulates down through the pipes 18 and the headers and back through the pipe 8 to the boiler. The water to be heated circulates from the tank through the pipe 10 and up through the outer tube 12 and around the inner tubes 18 and back to the tank through they pipe 9 and is heated by radiation from the headers and the ipes 18. p
ithout material modification the apparatus may be used as a cooler for water or other fluids by roviding a circulatlon of cold fluid through t e device.
What I claim as new, and des1re to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A water-heater comprising an outer cylin-. drical casing having inlet and outlet pipes,
headers on opposite ends of the casing, connecting-pipes between the headers, within the casing, one header having two parts, one
consisting of a plate havin holes forthe sald connecting-pipes and a t eaded ring into which the end of, the'casing is screwed, and the other part consisting of a cap screwed onto the'plate.
