To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES TOLLNER, a resident of Pulaski, Oswego county, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to spool-holders, and

has for its object to produce a'device which will hold a number of spools securely and at the same time allow the thread to be readily reeled off the said spools, and which will retain the loose ends in such a position that they will be readily accessible.

To this end my invention consists in a box or receptacle having bottom and side walls and open at the top and provided with a hinged cross bar extending across the middle thereof as will hereinafter be fully set forth and claimed.

In the drawings forming part hereofFigure 1 is an isometric View of a spool-holder embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through the same; and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section.

Referring to the drawings, A indicates a suitable box or receptacle having a bottom and side walls and entirely open at the top. Within this box suitably disposed are spools S S which are preferably placed loosely in the box, although they may be mounted on one or more axles, if desired. Across the middle of the top of the box and serving to retain the spools in place in the box isa crossbar B. This crossbar is hinged to the box by a hinge a. and provided with a spring clip I) at its free end, which clip co-operates with a pin 0 on the' box A to hold the cross-bar firmly in place.

Mounted upon the box (or upon the crossbar, if desired) are retaining clips or catches d which serve to hold the end e of the threads of the spools. These clips, in addition to serving to retain the thread in place as shown in the figures, may be used to cut the thread- Under these circumstances it will usually be found necessary to put a finger on the spool to tighten the thread when a jerk on the loose end of the thread will cause the clip to sever the thread. 7

From the foregoing it will be seen that I have produced an extremely simple, cheap and attractive holder for spools.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

In a spool holder, the combination of a box having a bottom and side walls and open at the top, of a cross-bar B extending across the box at its middle portion and hinged to the box by one end and provided at its free end with a fastening device, substantially as described.
