THREAD-CUTTER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOSEPH KINTZEL, a citizen of the United States, residin at Hutchison, in the county of Reno and tate of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread-Cutters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in thread cutters and has for its object the provision of a device 'of the above character which may be easily and quickly applied to an ordinary sewing machine.

Another object of my invention is the provision of a device of the above character which will have interchangeable blades so that one may be sharpened while the other is in use, thereby keeping the device in constant repair.

A still further object of my invention is the provision of such a device which will be cheap in construction, simple in operation and effective in use.

With the above and other objects in view I now proceed to describe my invention in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which,

Figure 1 is a detail perspective view of my improved thread cutting attachment, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view taken through the center of my improved thread cutter, and Fig. 8 is a detail perspective view of one of the blades which may be used in connection with my improved thread cutter.

Referring to the drawings by characters of reference 5 indicates the body portion of my improved thread cutter having formed in the end thereof the slot 6. This slot 6 preferably extends throughout the entire width of the body portion and is adapted to receive a blade. The end of the body portion opposite the slotted end is preferably extended and curved upwardly as clearly illustrated in the drawings at 7 and tapers gradually to the end 8. A suitable transversely extending aperture 9 is formed in the bottom face of the enlarged end of the thread cutter and communicates with the slot 6, previously described. EX-

tending substantially in a line with the aperture 9 and throughout the entire thickness of the body portion I also provide the apertures 10 which are adapted to receive set screws by means of which the device is attached to a sewing machine of any suitable type.

The blades indicated by the numerals 11 and 12, respectively, are provided with the facial recesses 13 which are adapted to register with the aperture 9 when the device is in use. These blades 11 and 12 are provided with the sharpened edges 14-, against which the thread is adapted to be passed when it is desired to cut the same. A suitable set screw 15 is adapted to be passed through the apertures 9 and 13 and removably secure the blades in place.

It will be clearly seen from the foregoing that by means of the apertures 10 through which suitable set screws are adapted to pass the body portion of my improved thread cutter is adapted to be secured to a sewing machine of any preferred type and it will be obvious that by pressing the thread against the sharpened edge of either of the above described blades, said thread will be cut at the desired point without necessitating the use of a separate instrument to perform this function. Owing to the interchangeability of the blades it will be obvious that a blade of any suitable construction may be used in connection with my improved thread cutter and should any blade become chilled from use it may be re moved and another substituted therefor, without causing any inconvenience to the operator.

While in the foregoing I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, I wish it to be understood that I may change the specific arrangement of parts without in any way departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
